2005 Ford GT Comparison (Car & Driver)

Just saw this on Car & Driver the other day. Normally I don't really like C&D but, it appears to be the first comparison out there and I found it interesting anyway.

"It wasn't even a contest. The Ford GT so completely dusted off its two highly recognized competitors that if we had wanted to make this a real challenge, we would have had to go way up the "supercar" price ladder. The $401,000 Saleen S7 is about as quick as the Ford GT, and we know of only one car that would surely outrun the Ford—the $659,000 Ferrari Enzo."

There was also a good show on Speed (Autorotica) about the design and building of the '05 GT. Ohh if only I had an old rich uncle somewhere or if I could only win the lottery

There was a quote on Autorotica regarding the '05 GT that I really liked. "This is one of those cars that would make you do bad things to get hold of one".

With the salary I make now, the GT is far, far out of reach. Yet, I have never fallen so in love with a car before. I have made a promise to myself to one day own one, no matter what it takes. Maybe if I start saving now, in ten years I'll be able to afford an old used one with high mileage. It doesn't matter, I just want it!

I posted this on another board. Please disregard if you've already seen it.

Obviously Ford's answer to a SuperCar. I don't want to hi-jack this thread but along the lines of a Ford powered super car has anyone seen the British built Twin Turbo Ford Powered Noble? This also looks like an awsome car at about half the price of the GT. The Noble uses a 3.0 liter Twin Garrett Turbo engine. 365 H.P. 380 ft/lbs of tourqe and weighs in at about 2200 pounds. It has a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds and a top end over 175 m.p.h. I got a packet in the mail the other day that had lots of literature and a video on this car. It's sold assembled, painted minus engine and 6 speed transaxle for about 58 K. They ship it to you out of South Africa. The engine, transaxle and US emmisions put it in the 75 K range. I found it pretty interesting.

Here's a link if anyone is interested.

Read another article on the Noble today. This appears to be one heck of a "kit" car.

I want to detail one of these, particularly if it resides in my garage.

I absolutely ADORE the GT and if offered a free super car, would choose it over the Saleen, Carrera GT, and maybe even the Enzo (though probably not, even though the Enzo is ugly on wheels); however, I think that test was a bit unbalanced; not matter how C&D might rationalize it, the Porsche tested should have been a GT2. But even if it out-performed the GT, I still would want the Ford - it's a brand new GT40, what else do you need to know?!
