Angry Car wont stay on?????

I'm driving a 2000 lincon town car and when i start the car it turns off by itself, however if i press the gas right after i start it, while in park, it will stay on. I dont know whats wrong but im thinking maybe the idle air valve or something like that. IM going on a 4 hour trip tomm. and i dont want to have problems. any help will be great!!!

Could it even be the fuel filter? I'm just wondering if it might be clogged enough that when you first start your car the pressure isn't built up enough to really force the gas through the line and your car is just running long enough to burn the existing gas in the line (from when you last drove it).

Or, I could be full of it

It probably shouldn't give you a problem if you can't get it checked out before your trip.

Sounds like it could be either the Idle Air Control Valve or the Throttle Position Sensor. First thing to do would be to check and see if it's throwing any error codes.
