Daaang!!! I want this car!

Check out this auction. That car is worth more than $5000 in just parts alone. You could probably sell the motor and the front clip for twice that. That is one car that I wouldn't mind having in my driveway as a parts car. I've already emailed him begging to let me come down and detail it for him.

How hard is it to register a right hand drive car in the US? I know it would have to have to be switched over the mph instead of kmh, but would you have to change it over from right hand drive as well?

I never knew Honda's came with Recaro seats.. I thought that was a European thing and Asians used Sparco?

He has used it in shows. Perhaps he changed the seats. There is some argument about the wheels too. 1997 JDM ITRs didn't have 4 lug wheels say some. Nobody has come up with any proof to that claim so far. Still, its a sweet car. He was trying to sell it for like $16K earlier and now he has put it on eBay. He just bought a 350Z and needs to start making payments. He is foolish not to have a reserve if he really wants to sell it. Some lucky guy is going to walk off with this car for a song if bidding doesn't pick up.

Well, if I were single and independently wealthy then I would. Unfortunately I've got that whole family thing to consider and I don't think my wife would appreciate it much if I went and spent our savings on a parts car. Besides, if I bought it I wouldn't have anything left to dream about then, would I?

I was stationed on Okinawa back in the '80s. From what I remember about what you'd have to do to "certify" a car from Japan, was to make sure all of the safety equipment (bumpers, glass, seatbelts, etc were up to U.S. standards). Then there is the emissions to deal with, I guess you'd have to go through the EPA for that.

I had a couple emissions issues to deal with when I brought an American spec Honda Prelude back to the states. Bought it through proxy from Guam. A phone call or two to Honda USA and a letter was able to solve the problem.

Excuse my ignorance on JDM cars, but does Acura us the Honda logo in oversees and not the Acura logo? It seems interesting that he does not include a picture of the engine. From my understanding of an imported JDM ITR the price is way too low. Additionally I thought there was a real demand for legalized imported car. If he wanted more for the car he should be able to get it, when advertised in the correct locations. Something just doesn't seem right.

I think Acura only exists in the States.

Well, it exists in Canada too. Acura is the same thing as Lexus and Infinity. They are just US brand names so they can make and sell more cars. Acura is just Honda's luxury division. Everywhere else in the world the Integra is a Honda except for North America.

I've talked to the guy about it. I've actually seen this car at a show once. Its real enough. There is a link to an album at the bottom of the auction that has more pictures of the car including one of the engine. With a car like this you may or may not want to license it for daily driving. It may be something you just want to use to race or show. It would have to be built up a bit more for racing, but it sure would be nice to have as a show car.

As far as the demand for an imported car goes, the demand is for the parts and not necessarily for the car. Not many of the interior parts are going to fit in a USDM car because the dash is all backwards. The seats and steering wheel would fit. There are things like that you can part out on eBay or on the import forums all day long. This car is worth at least twice as much in parts as it will sell for. He has it for sale for 16,000 but hasn't had any takers yet. My guess is that the pain to register it outweighs the cool factor. If I owned that car then I wouldn't register it. Integras are one of the most stolen cars in the country right now. I would keep that car under lock and key and only take it out for shows.

I dunno... whatever a stock JDM Type R puts down. My guess is low 14s. My car does 15s and its not a Type R.
