2005 Mustang GT

To any Mustang enthusiasts out there. The latest pic of the "production" 05 Mustang GT.

The body style is very similar to the current Mustang but with a retro touch to the front and rear. It rides on a variant of the Lincoln LS chassis and the GT will probably be powered by the same 3 valve 4.6 that is in the '04 F150 of course with slight differences. Supposedly around 300 ponies.

..... I think I like it. Honestly, I've never been a fan of the 99+ body style. I really liked my 97 and just haven't been able to get used to the squareness of the new style. The '05 model looks a lot more retro and a lot more like the car that I think they have been trying to reproduce for years now.

The more I look at it the more I like it. I can't wait for a great big poster to be made of it so I can hang it in my garage. A real one may never park in it, but at least I can dream.

Of course you know that it won't take long before they ruin it with a 4 inch scoop on the hood or something. lol

I think Ford or at least Team Mustang may actually be listening to consumers on this car. For years people have been complaining about all the fake scoops and if you look at the pic, this is a GT and there isn't a scoop on it anywhere. Team Mustang does visit forums like Stangnet. One member actually posted several polls asking opinions on several issues with the Mustang. Sad thing is now people are whining on Stangnet that the car looks too plain and they want some scoops on it

My problem was that the scoops were huge and obviously not functional. They put that hideous plastic honeycomb looking thing in there that wasn't going to fool anybody. I mean, how much work was it really to make them functional? Sheesh... They should have done that from the start. The big ones on the sides are kinda bad too. They put that same honeycomb plastic in there. They did that in the pre 99 version, but they weren't as big and they looked more probable that they actually did something. lol

I think this version looks really nice and I can't wait to get a model of it to put together. The more I look at it the more I like it. Now they just need to make sure the power under the hood is respectable. At 300 hp I think they are getting there.

Ohh come on the scoops aren't that obtrusive I admit I don't like them much either but I think they do add a bit to the styling. The problem with making the hood scoop functional is that the airbox is all the way in the front of the engine compartment right behind the passenger side headlight. The air would have to flow forward a couple of feet from the scoop inlet and Air doesn't like 180 degree turns Even the Mach 1 with its functional shaker hood scoop I do believe still pulls air from the fender like every other Mustang. The position of the air box just makes any kind of hood scoop marginally effective at best.

To be honest I never really liked the '99 body style either. When I was in the market for a Mustang I was concentrating on finding a '97 GT convertible. One day I happen to be at the dealer picking up my Contour after spending $500 on a sensor and getting an estimate to have the clutch replaced ($1100) and went over to sales side to browse while I waited for them to bring my car around. I saw a 2001 Laser Red GT and it was all over especially after cranking it up and the test ride. Forget the game face, the salesman knew I was hooked the second I started it.

LOL Yeah. That is funny... That's the same way I got mine. I was in the shop with my Probe and the salesman came up to me and said, "You look like a Mustang kind of guy." The rest was history. I would have gotten the GT but I was 21 years old and the insurance would have just raped me. I was very happy modifying a V6 instead.

Very nice, nothing wrong with the V6. I have seen several well over 300HP. At 21 I was still driving my 1981 Ford Courier pickup I bought the thing new in 82 and put 120K miles on it. I was 38 when I bought the Mustang so the insurance wasn't much more than my Contour.

I can't wait. Your descriptions of the dealerships have made me nervous...there is no way I will be able to act indifferent about the car...maybe I should have my wife buy it?

I like what ford has done with their engines recently. They are really getting more advanced. I don't really like this mustang, but it's alright. I would love to see one with a better shine on it and a better pic. I'm sure it would look way better then.

I saw the 05 Mustang on TV, shown at a recent Auto show, and all I can say is:

The more I see it the more I want one. It looks every bit a muscle car with its wide stance and with Fords SVT (if Ford Brings it Back) I'm sure this car will be a force to reckon with.

More than likely what you saw at a public auto show was the Mustang concept car that the '05 is based on. Ford is still very tight lipped about the production '05 and the first public viewing will not be until next year, probably in January. There are two versions of the concept car making the rounds at auto shows, a red convertible and a silver coupe.
