You should be able to do it yourself if the refrigerant is R134, which it should be. Chrysler has been using that since 1994. You will need several cans of refrigerant, and an adapter to charge your system. You should be able to buy a kit that includes the refrigerant, lubricating oil, and all necessary charging hoses and adapters. It might be wise to buy a Haynes manual while you are at the parts store, they tell you how to recharge the system. The process is very easy, and you should be able to do it in 20 minutes or so, I had to recharge my wife's old Neon once, and it was a cake walk.

Well, the problem is if your system is open allowing moisture in chances are your reciever-dryer is also bad. If you re-charge and the reciever/dryer is bad it will still not get cool. After replacing parts, and before charging, typically you should make sure the system can hold a vacuum.

Make sure the pressure is within specification or your A/C compressor will flip out.
