Question Muffler Problems!

I currently have about 4 or 5 small holes in my muffler, and i am going to replace it, but i was wondering how it affects the car. Does the gas mileage decrease? Does accleration slow down? or is it harmful to the car in any way? Anything at all! Also does anyone know a good muffler and exause to buy to mainly increase performance a little, not so much for sound. I drive a 1997 jeep grand cherokee laredo. Thanks

I don't think it hurts much to run around with a shot muffler - it only hurts your head.

You might want to consult a website or forum specializing in your kind of vehicle for exhaust system recommendations. There are probably several to choose from, but be cautious about what you buy. Some sound funny (a 5.0 Mustang with Flowmasters comes to mind), some are louder than others, and some have an annoying drone at certain (usually cruising ) RPM. It all depends on how it's designed and the type and quality of the muffler used.

Do you have any intake modifications? Just wondering because on some vehicles an exhaust upgrade by itself doesn't do much except increase noise. It depends and I don't know anything about Jeeps. Best to consult some people in the know about Jeeps. HTH

One bad side effect of holes in the muffler is the exhaust that can leak out under the car. If the car isn't moving, this is not a good thing.

Yes, bad spark plugs will affect perfomance and gas mileage.
