opinions on Lincoln LS?

I'm thinking of buying a used Lincoln LS V6 (2000 with 31K miles) just wondering if any of you have experiences with this car (good/bad)??? any specific thing I need to check? The car is still covered under factory warranty for about a year....

I like the way the car looks and that's been my only personal experience with the car. My friend rented one from Hertz a while back and said the V6 seemed underpowered for the car.

I'd check consumer reports and edmunds.com to find out problem areas. It's basically a Ford, so in the past they have known to have bad trannys and electrical issues on their cars. Not sure if they've fixed that since the mid 90s when my family had two Fords.

I agree that Edmunds is prolly your best source as they have dedicated chat topics for this car (and others) in the "Car Discussions" area. Plus they've road tested and evaluated them in the past.

Why not the V8 model? Prices between the two are pretty close. That 4.0L V8 kicks butt.

I assume its the base LS with auto, not the Sport model or the 5 speed, right? Auction prices are kinda all over the place which says they run hot and cold depending on demand. With low 30K miles wholesale prices are high 12's to low 15's with the average around $14,000. Retail is prolly $17,000 and you should get one for $16k. Could be better if the dealer bought it right. Could be worse if they did something stupid.

Great cars, though. I think you'll like it.

A lady at work has one, I have drove it a few times and liked it alot! I also think they look great as well.. I would own one

This is purely my opinion. The LS was the only real contender when I was buying my car (though I also looked at the 300M and the Bonnie). But it has very drab styling and a rather plain interior. It also felt very hyperactive and twitchy (and I had a Z51 Corvette at the time). It was like artificially sporty. But this is all just in one man's opinion. I can see how people would like it, but I just didn't like it that much. Plus, the V8 in the Aurora sounded better and felt stronger. And the 5-speed auto tranny in the LS was very very slow on shifts.

Anyway, if you want a manual then a V6 LS is great and one of the only choices out there. But if you are getting an automatic, take a look at a 2001 Aurora 3.5 or even a 4.0. I'd bet you could get a 4.0 for around $17,000 or probably less. And you'd get (on a 4.0, but maybe on a 3.5) rain-sensing wipers, stability control (a rare option on LS's), dual auto climate control, lots of burled walnut, and many other lux perks.

I agree with Aurora40 on this. When I was looking for a replacement car in 2000 I looked at the LS. I thought the interior wasn't layed out very well, no storage space and the trim and materials were not that great. As a new car the LS is way overpriced and the resale value is terrible, which makes for a bargin used car. I could have bought a new LS for less than the dealer can buy them through Ford's 'A' Plan Employee Purchase Program, but even at that price it just didn't measure up. For about the same money the Aurora, IMO, is a much better choice, especially with the V8.
