Beware the tumbleweed!

It was a beautiful day yesterday in southern california...a bit windy and warm from winds blowing offshore from the desert. I had the top down and was doing about 60mph on Oceanside Blvd when all of a sudden I saw the mother of all tumbleweeds...this was not the kind you see blowing down the streets of Dodge city in an episode of Gunsmoke...this was the lone tumbleweed of the apocalypse...at least 6ft maybe 8ft in diameter and it was rolling across the road on a collision course with yours truly. I slammed the breaks and locked up all four (no abs on my 99) and hit that thing dead on. It literally exploded on impact sending twig shrapnel flying everywhere. The inside of my car ended up looking like a barn and I have all these beautiful light scratch marks on my front bumper and hood. Yeah, life sux but it could have been worse...just thought I'd share.

99StangMan, sorry to hear about the scratches and barn effect. I'm glad you weren't hurt. Those things can be quite the hazard.

I'd forgotten about that lovely aspect of SoCal. I came home from school one day and the entire house was covered in tumble weeds. You couldn't see the house, just a huge tumble weed pile. The gate to the backyard, at the side of the house was completely blocked, so I had to go around to the alley, to get in the back and the backyard was full of the things too. Had to fight my way to the door. It's pretty funny now, forty years later.
