Toyota Oil Consumption

I have a 2001 Tacoma Crew Cab 4x4 V6 with 70,000 miles on it. I just found out that I'm using about a quart of oil every 5000 miles , is this really normal? Two dealers have told be Toyota's exceptable limit is a quart every 1000 miles , that sounds absurd.
Any imput would be great. Thanks

I dont know about Toyota's, but if your worried, do a compression test (wet and dry) or a cylinder leak down test.

I'm not an expert but that amount of consumption sounds OK to me. You might want to check out the threads at www.edmunds.com Town Hall. Do a search and you'll find lots of info about Toyotas and oil issues.
