Questions on Honda Prelude???

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone who owns a honda prelude somewhere around the year 1992, could tell me what they think of the car? im interested in buying a 92 so i want to know any problems or good things about them i sould look for...thanks'

i detailed an integra from that period, andit seemed to be a comsmeticaly good car when i was done. Came grey, and went back black (factory color) bedcause of the swirls, but other than that the paint was great.

All Hondas are good cars. I sold a ten year old Accord with 160,000 miles on it and still got $5000 out of it. They hold their value forever. The problems that you see on Hondas with high miles are usually things like the water pump, the head gasket could blow anywhere beyond 150 usually, clutch, you know... stuff like that. Depending on the maintance record of the car, I'd say that a 92 lude should be a pretty good buy. A Honda will only last as long as its taken care of, though. If the owner stopped taking care of it 5 years ago then it may not last much longer. Get more info on the maintance records on it if you can. That will help more. As a whole, Preludes are good cars and Honda is a reliable manufacturer.

I have a 93 prelude, and I love it. I have only had it for like 4 months, it has 69,000km on it and so far it has run great with no problems. What you will want to look for:

Rust around the wheel wells, especially the rear since they are known for getting rust there. If there isn't, take good care of it and there shouldn't be a problem.

If you get a 92 there are two different types, the S model and the SI. (vtec came in 93+) Try and avoid the S model since they are only 130hp compared to the SI's 160hp. But if you don't care to much for speed then the S is still good.

Other than that, they are great cars.

most people's opinion is that the Si's hp was underrated by honda. i saw a Si run a 15.4 bonestock. of course, everyone thinks that his car is a factory "freak"

the great thing about the non-vtec models (H23) is that they have loads more torque low down than the 5th gen (h22), so just driving around town is much funner in the 4th gen

thats also true, h23's came in the closed deck design if i remember correctly. i really like the futuristic dash of the 4th gen. it was way ahead of its time

He's right. All Hondas are excellent!! My other car is a '90 Accord and it has approximately 194k miles and it still runs like a champ. We had our water pump replaced at 150k check up as a preventative measure. We also have a '98 Accord EX-V6. I think it has a little more than 60k miles and still runs like new. Not a thing was replaced yet and we're not anticipating anything would happen. *knock on wood*

The H23 swap into Accords is almost as popular now as the H22 swap-especially since you can use whatever bolts ons you already have with your F22 engine. No worry about wiring up the VTEC either.

jonbeling-make sure you check when the timing belt was last changed. 90 and up Hondas need it changed every 90,000 miles. You may be alright going a few thousand pass that, but don't push it...if the belt breaks, Honda engines are interference engines and your valves and pistons will try to occupy the same place at the same time...the valves always lose!

I've got 248,500 miles on my Accord and it still runs great!
