Re: First Speeding Ticket

This is when it is nice to know someone. My friend rec a ticket from a local cop. A state trooper plays in his dart league. All it took was a call from the state trooper, my friend was told to plead not guilty and the cop wouldn't show for the date w/ the magistrate.

Glad you came through this OK, I'll be interested to hear what the peer-court comes up with.
I will absolutely post back on here after the teen court date.
It actually sounds pretty cool, I know a girl that is an appointed lawyer for alot of the cases that go through it. She volunteers of course but apparently you can do everything from baliff to judge.

Re: First Speeding Ticket

Enjoy teen court. I helped start one up in my hometown almost 20 years ago. Glad to hear they are still in use. Since most teens will just get a slap on the wrist through the normal system, the additional punishment of the teen court system generally reduce the likelihood of future criminal actions. At least that is what happened in my hometown. The payoff for participating and taking the punishment (jury duty, essays, community service, etc) is to avoid having the infraction included on your record. A pretty good trade off.

Luigi,

How did he catch you on horseback and where do they mount the lights?

Re: First Speeding Ticket

Alright teen court went extremely well I think I was in the building all of five minutes and I'm off clean record and all after two jury terms and ten hours of community service, which I have to have for college applications anyway.

Again, Thank you guys so much for all the pointers and I'll keep all of it in mind next time, which hopefully won't happen.

Re: First Speeding Ticket

this brings back memories of my first ticket. 57 in a 40. the cop was actually pretty nice though and dropped it down to 49 in a 40 since i had a clean record. still cost me 185 bucks though. went out and bought a Valentine 1 radar detector after that.

Re: First Speeding Ticket

Pay the fine, go to the school, and send an extra $5 with with the ticket. Mail it in. Reason! I read this in a mag years ago. When you mail in the check to pay the fine. Send $5 extra. The BWV in your state will return the $5 bucks in a check. DO NOT CASH IT! The fine will be recorded as payed, but the case will not be closed. Then the BMV can not give you the 2 points for speeding. A moving violation. Then foreward the info to your insurer and raise your rates. I have done this many times, Neve got the points and the fine was paided. Now that I'm in my 50's, I don't speed as much. Slow down, you don't want a screwed up driving record. It can hinder your being hired on a job,and other crazy mess!
