Tell me about F250's

Thinking of getting the following, not sure at this point. I will be hauling a 5k trailer 5-7 times/yr 100 mi ea trip. Other than that DD & drving around construction sites

09 f250 quad cab
4x2
automatic
v8 or v10 (def. gas)
Base trim/options

How is MPG between the v8 and v10? Any other reliability issues? I usually keep a car about 10yrs...

The V8 and V10 share architecture (V10 is basically just 2 more cylinders), and both are extremely well proven long lasting engines. I think the V8 is a F250 is underpowered though, but I would suggest a test drive to make your own call. MPG in a truck of that size in a gasser (V8 or V10) will be low teens regardless.

I think you would enjoy the truck considerably more with a V10, though.

I think you would enjoy it considerably more with the PowerStroke. If you keep a truck that long, and tow, then you'd be crazy not to get one.

Also, look into used 08 F-250's. There are tons of ppl out there now that cant afford them any more, and are dumping them for payoff.

Couldn't agree more. My dad has always had a big pickup for towing/hauling/any other truck duty. For years he always got gassers, including a V10 F250. He finally went diesel and said he should've done that a long time ago. Pulling is 100 times nicer and obviously long term a diesel can go forever when properly maintained.

He had two F250's one V8 and one V10 and as far as I know had zero problems out of either. The V10 sounded like a demon pulling on hills, that thing screamed.

If your staying gas get the V10. I wouldnt bother with a Diesel from Ford unless it was the 7.3. Their new in house designed "Scorpion" Diesel looks promisuing though.

Yes, test drove the v8 and agree on the V10 or diesel

My only gripe is the interior. Is it me, or has Ford gotten extremely cheap on the interior? I feel like I could break all the thin plastic trim within 2 yrs, not sure how long that stuff would last.

Re: Tell me about F250's

Honestly, i'm a fan of the 2005-2006 F-250s. Interior is better, 6.0 powerstroke instead of the 6.4, outside is less "gaudy"

Re: Tell me about F250's

Never driven the 08-up but I like the 07 6.0 350 we have. It moves very well, tows extremely well, and has been very reliable since we've owned it (brand new). In like 20-25k miles, the only "issue" was water in the fuel which was a 2 minute fix (just have to drain the separator, not really an issue at all IMO).

If you're going to tow, I would definitely go towards the diesel. Not only is it a more powerful engine, and more tow friendly, it has more potential as far as modding (increase fuel mileage, towing ability, etc) and gets better gas mileage than the gas versions. Our truck is completely stock and I think in the city we get about 15-16mpg and highway is about 17-18. Not bad for such a big vehicle. I haven't done a mpg calculation in a long time with it so it might even be better after break in (the ford people say they gas mileage increases after about 20k or so mi)

Dont get a gas, you will hurt my feelings! Never can go wrong with a powerstroke.

Re: Tell me about F250's

Ended up with the Dodge 2500 CTD 4x4. It has a better interior, and think I got a better deal, as chrysler is desperate for sales.

Re: Tell me about F250's

Does it have the lifetime warranty? We've had nothing but problems with our dodge ram p/u but it is a gas engine

Re: Tell me about F250's

aftermarket 5yr/60k warranty on everything (the gassers come with lifetime powertrain, but the diesels do not)
5yr/100k on the cummins engine
3yr/36k factory warranty

the fords have a longer warranty period, but if the dealership are like they were with my GT, they say you have to leave it there a week before they look at it ended up driving across town to a different dealer everytime I needed work
