Any Ford Diesel guys here?
I'm looking at getting a 1996 F-250 Diesel. It's got a newly rebuilt auto trans.
How are these engine and trucks? I've never owned a diesel before but always wanted one.
Anyone with experience chime in.
Thanks!

You went from wanting an Audi to an F-250?

If I get an Audi it won;t be until the Subaru lease is up in November. The truck will be for hauling.

7.3L Powerstroke. I was thinking of the same thing but I THINK, not sure, it was the later models that had troubles, like turbo troubles or something was the main issue.

Re: Any Ford Diesel guys here?
from my reads on diesel forums, those 7.3's are stout. Much better than most recent PowerChoke's when they came out.

Thanks! I remember a buddy of mine having a newer one and having issues and a contractor I worked with was complaining about his as well (newer than this model).

They are some of the most durable engines ever built. Should last you for hundreds of thousands of miles.

Re: Any Ford Diesel guys here?
I've got one with 260,000ish miles. Aside from two trans (shop screwed up first one) and the usual maintenance things with any truck its been one of the best. Its beat on HARD everyday. Pulls trailers with farm equipment daily(a lot stuff that I probably shouldn't as its to heavy for the truck), taken offroad every weekend and daily in the farm fields. I plow snow in the winter and love this truck more then my newer ones. And when I plow snow with it I push the poor motor/trans to their limits and over, lol.
I say go for it if its reasonable priced. Just remember its going to make a little more noise then you car.

Re: Any Ford Diesel guys here?
Thanks! The guy is actually wanting to trade the truck for one of my motorcycles so it should be a pretty good trade.

Re: Any Ford Diesel guys here?
That motor is a tuff *******. Should last you a long time. Plus with a simple tuner they can be pretty quick to.
