New Genesis Coupe...wtf?

Am i the only one who thinks these are a blatant ripoff of the G37's styling? I really think that if you blacked the tails and such out and de-badged it, 99% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

This might be the first good Hyundai EVER. It even has a similar sound to the G37. It's packing a 3.8L V6 (yeah, it's ever so slightly bigger than the VQ37, lol).

And they've got a 2.0t version too. I think this car is going to sell very well personally. And a decent looking interior (though the blue LCDs look like every cheap ipod product ever, oh well)

It's a little slower than the G37 and 370Z, but it'll probably be ever so slight faster than the G35, and I'd image too close to call with the 350Z (especially if it's got the HR engine).

The question is, will they depreciate like a Hyundai (and be worth $20k in a few months), and is there any reason to buy one over a used G35/350Z/whatever.

Oh, and Mitsubishi, if your next Eclipse doesn't offer AWD again, you might as well shut the line down. Hyundai has bested you.

Oh look, here's a little comparison Popular Mechanics did. If the 3.8L responds well to mods, this car might be a winner. Though supposedly this car doesn't offer navigation, but check this out (along with a buncha pics):

And here's a youtube of the exhaust modded some.

Re: New Genesis Coupe...wtf?

Only time will tell if the car is a well built machine or a sheep in pig's clothing.

I dig it for sure but I always associate cheaply made interiors with Hyundai. I've yet to sit in a new one though or a Genius for that matter.

Re: New Genesis Coupe...wtf?

I haven't been in either of the Genesises. I can totally relate about the poor interior quality of most Hyundais. I couldn't even guess how much blood I lost due to the razor sharp edges on the inside of their dash. Everything is sharp and wants to take your fingers off.

It *looks* good in pictures, but who knows how well it'll hold up, or how well it feels in person. Apparently there won't be any with nav until summer, what a waste.

What's with that one pic of the screen sticking way up? Is that aftermarket?

Re: New Genesis Coupe...wtf?

We have alot of Hyundai's in our company fleet. I can tell you from personal experience that the fit/finish is at Japanese standards now (actually think it's better than Toyota and on par with Honda). Their respective reliability is up. The coupe does look like it take styling cues from the G35 coupe (not a bad place to start) and like that the base engine is a 2.0L Turbo (which will be a tuners dream). The big negative for Hyundai is that they still lose more in depreciation than comparible vehicles (they still cannot shake that unreliability curse from the 80's to early 90's). However, Hyundai has had a successful business plan by offering option laden vehicles that offer more in comparison to the Japanese/US/German competitors at 80% of their cost.

Re: New Genesis Coupe...wtf?

Those pictures of the modded ones look good but I just took a look at some pics of them on google images and it looks quite ugly to me.

The front end reminds me of a chipmunk and the car styling is just waaay to unbalanced. The rear end looks "fat" to put it simply. Even though it looks like they took styling cues from the g37/370z the g37 did it right. If your going to try to look like something, atleast try to improve on it.

For the price range this definitely wouldnt be my pick for a coupe. Though I do have to say that the change in styling is a good direction for hyundai. Ive always thought they had very boring cookie cutter deisgns.

Did they have to put Coupe on the dash, like you need a reminder that this is a coupe. The top grille looks like a Batman logo. I do like the side panels and the quad pipes.

I think so, the first set of pics have a more subtle shape to them, and those appear to be the factory nav system (based on the HVAC info being in there). I believe that they just glassed a bigger screen into the odd shaped one, maybe it's a full double DIN though, not too sure.

I hope they depreciate like mega bad. I'd love to buy a very slightly used one for mega cheap. It might be enough to sway me to that car. As opposed to a used Challenger R/T, 350Z, G35, whatever.

So here's the big question, why buy this car over a used G35 or 350Z? From what I see, the only real feature it has over either is keyless ignition (part of the '06+ G35 tech package), and a rear seat (standard on well, all G35s). Sure there's the whole "brand new" nonsense, and there might be some Hyundai fanboys, or something other than that, but there is no single advantage it has other than price. SO to be, used versions of them will almost HAVE to fall in line with some rather high depreciation.

Yea thats one of the first things I noticed.....even putting "genesis" would have been more fitting but coupe??? Come on.......what genius came up with that idea.

I just noticed the picture of the person who debadged the back and was left with holes and an imprint...
