FWIW, I think it was MotorTrend that has all the cars on the cover and tested them based on price class...

The Cobalt SS destroyed (3 seconds or more) the G37...

I would consider the G37 more of a Luxury sport, Like the M3 and such. I would much prefer a G37 over a cobalt SS, it is a much much nicer vehicle.

Again you are comparing Apples to Oranges.

Not comparing them, just answering the question. I would MUCH rather have a G35/7 is far out of my price range.

Kevin, I thought you where a bimmer guy? I woud love a 335i, but again far out of my range, I'm not a baller

A Cobalt SS racing a G37/335i is the same as a Corvette guy racing a Ferrari. Sure the Corvette might win (Z06) but... The Ferrari guy still has a Ferrari

Supposedly the WRX has crappy paint.....if we use the logic of the dashboard molesters, then the entire car is crap, right? Better call the WRC and let them know....

Wake up.
My point again Im not a Subie guy at all but if I had to choose Foreign vs domstic ANYTHING The choice is SIMPLE. Domestic vehicles are 10 year 100,000 mile cars and thats all. They have an extremely high turnover rate, They litter the junk yards, They keep repair shops in business. Thats just the truth ! Go to your local junk yard and look for yourself How many Cavilier's do you see, Beretta's, Corsica's, The focus, Transam's, Impalla's, S10's, Buick's, Oldsmobiles, Regal's, Fords, Just about the whole domestic line can be found their. For 2 reasons. They dont last, and because they need parts for the ones still running that continue to break down. As you walked tough that junkyard how many Hondas did you see ? how about VWs. The choice is simple, do you want a car that you'll need to put tons of cash in when it ages ? if so just spend it now and buy the 3 series.

And bad paint doesnt warrant junk yard. His perfession is fixing bad paint. So how is this usefull ?

^ i totally agree, but have to disagree on one point

VWs are notorious for electrical gremlins. so that does keep them somewhat unreliable.

Why pay for something of lesser quality, when the same amount of money will get you something better?

I have to disagree.

I am not "loyal" to any particular brand, I buy the car I want at the time I am looking, end of story.

Anyway, I can say without bias that my "American" cars have been more reliable, and had less costs with regards to ownership then the imports I have owned. Hell, my WRX with less then 7500 miles has had more issues already then my Focus with 110k.

Regarding your "evidence" of junk yards, thats a nearly bogus metric as its relative to local sales levels. Furthermore, imports cost more to repair and as a result many of them are diverted from junk yards and are immediately parted out as their parts are worth more.

Ya, I have a 335i I was just thinking the new Cobalt might be the next "holy crap I'm 16 and have a super duper fast car so I will race everyone that isn't in a camry" kind of car. Not you, of course, but you know what I mean; it's a lot of car for a good price so you know some young guys are gonna..well, ya.

I'm selling my car if you want it, no swirls.

So, when do you drive them?

Agree on this.

When I lived in Chicago (when I was in high school I was a 'gear head' and we used to bone pick junkyards for parts for our cars) and the majority of the cars in the boneyard where late '70s domestic. But this was in 1996-98 so 1)in the late '70s domestics held a high market share 2)the cars where 16-20 years old 3) most people in the midwest drive domestic.

Three years ago I needed to get a new power seat track so I went to every junk yard around Orlando...

I would say that there where slightly more foriegn cars that where newer (lots of earlier 90's stuf). There where some domestic cars but most where as you said (late '80's Berettas, Sunbirds, mini-vans.

So in Orlando, where more people made the switch to Japanese cars eariler, the junkyard told a different story.

If it is dark blue with red interior I'll take it (kind of like that lighter blue Testarossa you detailed). Also I don't care about swirls because I pay a neighbor hood 15 dollars a week to wash my cars so they are VERY swirled (also makes for great test beds for polishing
One of the reasons I am considering the Cobalt is because I am hoping that the fact it is a domestic and not cool will keep those type of kids away. I mean its not cool guys, it IS a Cobalt.
