How much extra would you be willing to pay?
2008 Honda Civic EX-L with auto tranny for $21,900 out the door
vs
2009 Honda Civic EX-L with auto tranny.
Both in Taffeta White.
Dealer agreed to that price but the 2008 is on the opposite side of the state. He says the price stands, but noticed he has an identical 2009 coming on his truck tomorrow. He will look at the invoice and call me with a price "I can't refuse." If I don't want it, he will acquire the 2008 for me.
Advantages of the 2009
-Added vehicle stability assist = more safety for my wife's car
-sportier bumper and cooler wheels on the 2009
-I instructed the dealer not to touch the car until I made up my mind = no scratches on the 2009 vs a 2008 that has probably been washed by the dealer.
I can't decide how much more I would be willing to pay for these advantages. Anyone have input?

Re: How much extra would you be willing to pay?
IMO with the money you would save on the 08
have it detailed by a pro once a year for the life of the car!
I would get the 08 and save some $

I have considered that as well, though replace "detail by pro" with "talk wife into letting me buy my own PC/Flex"

Little to no change in 08/09. Get the cheaper. I did some research on exactly how much that car is worth. I would pay no more that 21,500 for it.

Re: How much extra would you be willing to pay?
Get quotes from several dealers, not just one, if you can...
Don't take no for an answer, work the quotes with the different places to a reasonable extent, get them to be competitive. It's worth the patience to save hundreds of your hard earned...
Good luck!

Re: How much extra would you be willing to pay?
I've already worked with several dealers to get the price to where it is. I was originally at 22,950 OTD with another dealer. I got it down to 21,900 after some phone calls. I actually got one dealer down to 21,400 for a silver one they have on their lot, but the dealer I am buying from is willing to get a white car from the west coast of florida for 21,900. My wife wants white, so her happiness and satisfaction is worth the extra $500 since this guy will not budge any more on the price.
Still waiting to see what this offer I can't refuse on the 2009 is. I've decided if they want to give it to me for the same price, I'm sold. If they want any more, they can give me the 2008.

Re: How much extra would you be willing to pay?
well, me personally I wouldn't pay more than $400 over what invoice is, my employer gets us that price on new hondas (excluding nav systems and the fit).
MSRP = $21,555 for the EX-L with auto tranny
add 670 for dest fee = $22,225
invoice pricing isn't available on edmunds yet but like I said I def wouldn't pay more than $400 over what invoice is. So if you are paying less than $400 over invoice I would say its a good deal, however if not then I would argue that there is a better deal out there in NC.

Re: How much extra would you be willing to pay?
my choice would be the 08. it's still brand new, full new car warranty, and you save $$$$. i decided years ago to never buy a brand new car again due to the ridiculous waste of money they are (unless you have $$$ to burn...then have at it! )
i love honda, especially civics, btw. nice choice.

Re: How much extra would you be willing to pay?
Ended up at the dealer, they tried to upsell me on the 2009 for 1k more. I told them no go.
I know buying a new car is not the wisest money choice. But, the wife wants a new car, so she gets a new car.

Re: How much extra would you be willing to pay?
If safety is really a concern, and it should be, don't pass up the chance to get a car with " vehicle stability assist". After driving a car with a vst option you'll never buy one without it. Remember when ABS brakes were the new thing?
The question then was do I want them or not. Now who would want a car without ABS?
I personally would pay the $1000 extra just to get VST even forgetting about the one year newer the nicer wheels and better looking bumpers, not to mention the higher resale value. Wow sounds like a no brainer to me.
Get your wife the 09, she'll be glad you did.

Same here. You'll have a better car and resale will be at least $1000 higher for many years.
