As my title says, I'm just wondering if I got ripped off at the pump tonight, or if there is a scientific reason why I paid for 14.322 gallons even though according to my owner's manual my gas tank is only 13.2 gallons?
Costco Gasoline? Yay or Nay?
After that thread, I decided lemme try the Costco gasoline, since it's cheaper than others and it 'appeared' to be up to code, clean and high traffic. I ran my car to 'E', and my gas gauge isn't the most reliable so tonight on 'E' my light came on. I decided I'd give the Costco gas a whirl and calculate my MPG on a full tank of it. I got to Costco fine even though the light was on, it wasn't like I rolled in from a block, so I obviously had gas in my car. Got my gas and noticed the pump was pumping slower than normally, I've been to Costco gas with friends before. When I received my recipt it clearly said 14.322 gallons so I did a double check on the screen and it was the same. Knowing according to my manal that my car is only 13.2 gallons I was kinda pissed. Since it was hot, I had things to do, I didn't have my owner's manual with me and I felt I wouldn't get anywhere with the guys working there I figured to let it go for now.
I'm wondering if there is a scientific explanation, i.e. the weather causing gas to expand or whatever, or if I just got ripped off? It kinda sucks too because the gas was $3.77 which is very cheap in my area, but the cheapness gets canceled out if I spend an extra $3.77 for a 'missing' gallon.
I was able to find a number to call, which I plan on calling tommorow, but just though I'd give you a heads up and ask for any Autopian feedback.
