Re: Subaru owners, tell me all about them
Good cars. They consult with Porsche for the design of their Boxer engines.

Re: Subaru owners, tell me all about them
My GF just bought an 08 5 door Impreza Premium. It is a GREAT car. A huge improvement over previous years as far as interior fit and finish goes. It is VERY quiet on the highway, handles well, gets 30MPG plus or minus, and most importantly it's fun to drive. We have been road tripping a lot this summer and have 18k miles on it already! No rattles, weird noises, or any other issues so far. We have also been very happy with the utility that the hatchback provides. I just finished (about an hour ago) driving from Colorado to California with my sister and GF. We had plenty of room and believe me, they didn't pack light! I guess what I'm getting at is that we couldn't be happier with our purchase.

Re: Subaru owners, tell me all about them
I have a 2004 Outback wagon and have not had any problems. And they are great in the northeast pa winters. When I purchase mine, it came w/ heated seats, heated side mirrors, and it also has a element in the windshield to keep ice from building up on the wipers.
On a side note, I do have a Subaru credit card, and I get 3% rebate in the form of Subaru Bucks that can be used at the dealer for parts and services.

Re: Subaru owners, tell me all about them
My wife and I love our 2005 Legacy Wagon.
FYI - The ONLY engines that require Premium (91 Octane) are the Turbo engines and the 3.0R 6cycl. The Tribeca comes with the newer 3.6 6cycl engine which uses regular.

My fiancee and I have a 2008 Outback (Limited - great package adds everything you need in one package / leather sunroof heated seats mirrors windshield)
I love the paint - Deep Bronze Metallic - easy to work with - good flake pop - and it seems to get lighter in light and darker in dusk.
We checked out the 2.5XT, but it requires premium fuel and it just didn't have enough excitement (over the base engine) to justify the cost. The base engine IS peppy and ours has a Sportshift gate in case you want to have better control over the RPMs. I did at one point offer to my fiancee to check out the new Impreza as it's a total package as well...albeit smaller and less expensive!
We are MORE than pleased with the quality of this car. The only changes I would make is more storage space (cubby holes and larger bins) and add a hybrid engine.
that's it, it really is a total package.
SPECS:
2008 Subaru Outback Wagon 2.5i Limited w/VDC (stability control) (Automatic Transmission)
Deep Bronze Metallic
The Limited package includes: 6 disc CD changer / heated seats / leather seats / moonroof
Other cool features: dual climate control / MP3 hookup / satellite radio ready / heated mirrors and wiper blades / fog lights
36 month lease / 15k miles a year / 0 down / $319.11 per month.
MSRP - $28540
Selling Price - $24449
The dealer didn't touch it, we sent it to rickrack for detailing and the addition of a 3M clear bra and had the windows tinted to 35% (max for Mass.)

Re: Subaru owners, tell me all about them
Everybody who has one seems to like it, except for me and my wife. Our two Subies ('96 Outback and '02 WRX) were less than swell, both with regard to reliablity and bad-weather performance (the latter in direct comparison to our Audi Quattros- literally side-by-side with the exact same tires).
But that's just me and my wife and everybody else seems to love 'em I mighta liked ours better had they not been in the shop all the time... warranty or not it was a hassle (the warranty isn't worth much if they can't figure out how to fix it ).
Just in case you get one like ours, I'd make sure your local Subie dealer is good, and has experience with manual shift ones.
The paint is pretty thin, but it's not all that bad. Better than that on some Mazdas, for instance.

Re: Subaru owners, tell me all about them
Having never owned one, I've heard they aren't made like they used to be. A relative of mine had a late 90s (I think) Impreza wagon, but got rid of it soon after it was purchased due to several issues, IIRC.
I was reading up on the Impreza on MSN autos and it appears they had "significant" engine issues from '97-2003.
