We are still a few years away from it, but the next car we want to get is a Lexus, maybe just one or two years old if possible. For the luxury and dependability and because we've never had a car that nice (though we've both had new cars before).
Considering the present gas crunch, that might enter into people's decisions too. But along those lines I remember panicking once in the early 80's over the same reason, buying a rabbit and being very sorry in the ensuing months that followed. Good gas mileage but mechanically a lemon. So lesson is try not to panic and still take every factor into consideration.

-Kawasaki Ninja 250R or similar: Also for better gas mileage, but for summer fun too.
-and last but not least, a 98-02 Trans Am WS6. Not exactly practical, but eh...

Ditto on the Kawasaki Ninja 250r, just have to bring myself to part with the VFR This is going to be a great year for Kawasaki with that bike. They have completely redesigned it for '08 with more sportbike styling than the stale 20 year old looks it sported last year... 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R Review 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R - First Ride - MotorcycleUSA.com

I've always like BMWs, especially the 3-series and was planning on getting one as soon as finances allowed. However I thought I should support an American manufacturer or at least give them a shot first and see if I like anything. I'm thinking of getting a Cadillac CTS instead.
I would consider the new VW diesel that they're bringing over but its only available in the Jetta which is too much of a "chick" car to me. I would prefer the GTI or even the Rabbit with that new diesel. I might at least look at a Rabbit anyway since they are a little more economical and pretty cheap too relatively speaking.

The hybrid aside, it's an extremely well engineered car. Build quality, interior room, quiet, touchscreen interior controls, lots of storage space. It'll will easily swallow mountain bikes, snowboards, etc. I really am happy with it's front legroom, and rear legroom is even more surprising!
I guess I'd go with an AWD Prius (if they had one) or a Hybrid (if they had one) Outback.

I would like the lexus is-f, but sometimes I just don't feel like spending 60k on a car, so I was also thinking about the 2009 acura tl. If it comes out and I like it, tl (about 40k), if I don't like it, the lexus.
