Heh heh, people always said I had stodgy/old-guy taste in my sedans...the dated three-box stying of our '00/'01 A8/S8 strikes me (and my wife) as being absolutely *perfect* but I can sure understand somebody else thinking *BOOOOORING*

I absolutely LOVE the styling of the old S8.
But then again, I'm an Audi FREAK, so there aren't many designs that I don't like. BRING BACK THE S2!

Re: What vehicle are you thinkng about buying and why?
Dr. Woo- Nice to know Accumulatorette and I aren't the only people who appreciate the older Audi styling
They changed *so* many of the things we've loved about Audis for so long that the newer ones are gonna be a tough sell for us. Now if something happened to our cars, well, yeah...we'd get new S8s or maybe one of those and an S5 too. It took a major wreck (her '94 S4 was rear-ended by a, uhm...[stupid young female] ) to get my wife into her A8 and I kept my S8 even though the deer-incident repairs don't look quite right.
We get set in our ways when it comes to our Audis
Heh heh, IMO that S8 in your pic would look even better without the front plate holder and the "S8" badge in the grill Looks like Ming Blue...or is it black?

Yeah, the XL *IS* that much bigger back there. Now that we're down to only two dogs (at least for the moment) I'd kinda rather have the shorter one...it's *that* much of a difference!
But note that I pulled out the 3rd seat (and one of the middle row ones too) for the dogs and that might make it *look* bigger than it is Still...I couldn't have gotten by with the shorter version when we had three dogs.
Once you find a good one (of either size), get some aerosol cans of rustproofer (AutoInt's stuff for areas that don't show, Eastwood's black Anti-Rust for areas on the undercarriage that *do* show) and treat it so it *stays* rust-free. If you need info on removing the liftgate interior trim to get in where you need to spray just ask...I have the FSMs and it's not that tough when you know what to do. I spent a *lot* of time getting mine all protected but now I don't have to think about it.

Re: What vehicle are you thinkng about buying and why?
Right now I have a 96 BMW 328i, it has been a great daily driver for the past two years and is not going anywhere.
I'm looking at buying an E34 M5 soon as a second car/weekend driver. It's been harder than I thought to find one with good original paint, but I guess that's expected with an older car.

Re: What vehicle are you thinkng about buying and why?
My wife just purchased a brand new 2008 honda fit, Blazing orange metallic, and she loves it. We're averaging 36 mpg mostly highway. You can configure it on the inside so many differ. ways. It's like a mini suv for chicks i guess, plus it even has paddle shifters lol.
I have a 2004 accord cpe ex-l v6, but i love the look of the 08's. It would be a sexy dd

Audi has at least stayed mostly-true to their styling concept, but they are getting a bit swoopier. When de'Silva said he considered the A5 to be his most beautiful car, well...I have to admit I wasn't exactly sold. It's growing on me, though. I consider the new A6 to be a triumph, on the other hand.
That's a crime about your S8 though. Such a magnificent (there really is no other word to describe it) car. At least you could say the deer was enthralled with its beautiful styling.

I think I'd keep the badge - just for originality's sake - but the holder has got to go.
I think that's Ming Blue, though on first glance I assumed black.

I'm a huge fan of the older Audi designs, my favorite being the V8 Quattro.

I want a Cadillac XLR, it does not matter what color. Blue or Black would probably be my pick! I like the shape and style of this car. It also has a Vette engine! Not to mention it is a Cadillac!

My late father had one of those, and I was able to convince an elderly family friend to get one for herself. I'll almost certainly end up with hers when she's finished with it, so that's a car that's gonna join the accumulation some day (even though I can't quite get comfortable in it without a telescoping steering column).
IMO the V8Q is one of the best winter drivers of all time, better than my A8/S8s for sure.
Showroom Shine- Yeah, those were the first of the "hard edge"-styled Cadillacs to appeal to me. I'd love to drive one that Chuck Mallett worked his magic on!

I drove a Fit last weekend, and loved the handling of it. I didn't care for the paddle shifters, because the computer kept changing gears on me (overriding me) in the "manual" mode.
For the money, you can't really beat a Honda. I have never driven one that handled bad. Heck, even my box on wheels (Element) handles well.

My good friend in Germany has the VERY FIRST V8 Quattro to be produced with the 4.2L V8, as opposed to the 3.6L. It was a specially-built car for a top dawg in the VAG. Has all the options you could possibly want. He saw it driving down the road and recognized the exhaust note as being significantly un-3.6L-ish, so he chased the guy down and told him "if you ever sell it, call me."
Eventually the guy decided to upgrade(?) to a Mercedes, and he had no idea what he owned. Beautiful Forest Green, with a built-in fridge and rear airline-style seat trays. He's currently driving a Lupo 3L since the V8 needs some work to be restored, but that thing is magnificent. No other word to describe it. He showed me the little plaque and everything that signifies its uniqueness. Very cool stuff.
