anyone have a genius workaround?

Well I finally got a gps unit, but heres a problem.

The only good place I have to mount the unit, is on the windshield. My V1 is already on the dash, and thus there is no real good mounting spot left. I HAVE to use a sunshade here in Texas, but of course the gps gets in the way.

Anyone have good ideas to get around this? I'm sure someone has dealt with this before.

Thanks!

Re: anyone have a genius workaround?

If there are forums for your brand GPS, I would go there and search for "mount" and see what creative ideas the folks come up with. Here's 2 from TomTom Forums

Car Vent Mount

Beanbag Mount

Thanks kpounds!

I went with the air vent option from that site, looks like it will fit my needs perfectly.

I have the bean bag mount that I found at BestBuy. Works pretty good, plus when not using the GPS, I can mount my cell phone or a boob tube there.

Do you not unmount your equipment before putting your sun shades on? I don't have one but when I did use one, I would take it off my windshield every time I leave my car somewhere so some thieves won't try to steal it.

What kind of car do you have? The reason i ask is that if you go to a specific car forum, there might be aftermarket parts tailored specifically to YOUR car, which most of the time looks and functions better.

Re: anyone have a genius workaround?

I mounted mine on the windshield against the A-pillar. Even with my height, it doesn't impair my vision too much...at least not where its needed most: front and side. But as you mentioned, the visor gets in the way, but you could always move it down a little bit to clear that. I never use mine, though. There's always those dash mounts that are a basically a plate and you mount the suction to the top of the plate instead of the windshield, but if you are like me, there's no way in hell you'd do it!
