G8 Pontiac

I was at a VW meet today and what pulls up...a black Pontiac G8. Not only did it look *so* nice, it sounded amazing. Anyone else see one out and about yet?

Wish I would have gotten pictures of it to share with you guys

Re: G8 Pontiac

I wouldn't doubt it. I was happy to see the styling almost mimicked the concept pictures which were released. It wasn't one of those cars that looks great in the ads and release pictures and then looks plain for production roll out. The styling was very aggressive!

Agreed. The whole car is aggressive, GM has been stepping it up ALOT. The re-worked the suspension and steering on the car, almost everything on the G8 is different from all previous G serious.

Re: G8 Pontiac

The car is pretty awesome in a straight line.

It looks different from everything else because it is just a direct import from Vauxhall in Europe.

It is faster than a M5 in a straight line, but according to Top Gear it has the worst chassis of any car they had ever driven. It has such catastrophic understeer that if you are full on the gas you can literally turn the front wheels enough, and so ineffectively, that they will actually smoke instead of turning the car.

Re: G8 Pontiac

In America most of the roads you're gonna race a M5 on are straight.

I believe the G8 is actually a Holden Commodore SS built in Australia for Pontiac. Hopefully, it'll be around longer than the GTO, also produced by Holden as the Monaro.

Re: G8 Pontiac

I'm not convinced that a 361hp G8 GT can out accelerate an M5 with 500hp...something doesnt seem right to me. Unless Top Gear was testing an aftermarket version of a G8???

Re: G8 Pontiac

I liked the commercial. Pretty funny. But I'd be shocked if the handling was anywhere near the level of any BMW (except maybe the X5).

Re: G8 Pontiac

I got to test drive a base G8 GT last night. I forgot how lazy V8's can feel. Not used to their nature. Overall, I went in with low hopes and was really impressed with everything except the transmission. I am not a fan of any auto and this reaffirmed that. I confused the transmission no less than twice in a 5 min drive and one of those times it hunted for the right gear for a good 2 seconds.

Actually, the new G8 is 2 tenths slower than the 5 series competitor (not M5) in the quarter. While still fast the regular G8 runs very low 14's stock. Now the G8 GXP is going to be a completely different animal and will compete against the M5. I don't think everybody in this thread is talking about the GXP though, and not sure if they are even out yet.
