Accident!!!!

Well, it finally happened to me!

Driving along on I-80WB going to work and some irate lady was tailgating me (I'm going 80+mph) then she goes to pass me on the right, gets right along side me, then starts coming over! I slammed on the brakes, but there's nothing I could do...it was either go in the wall and make it look like my fault and only involve me, or hold my lane and let her hit, which she did. Took out the front quarter panel, light, bumper, hubcap, and the door is scratched pretty well (but not dented). The cop cited her at fault and busted her a ticket for improper lane change

I'm really sick of the Chicago-driver attitude up here! Where can I move where everyone is courteous and are respectful of other drivers (ie move over when going slow, waiting turns, etc)?

Pictures of my once beautiful co car are to come...they are cell pics, but still look decent...Are there any accident my fellow Autopian's have experienced lately?

Sorry to hear that Mhadden! Well defintly do not move to Massachusetts, we are the worst drivers! I agree though, I am so sick of people being as rude as possible on the road, not obeying any type of traffic lights or signs and just thinking they can do anything they want without consequence! I cant stand it! We are glad your ok and a car can fixed...especially by HER insurance company. If her insurance company calls to ask you all kinds of questions just keep answering with the fact that she was sited at the scene....nothing more to say!

To answer your question, there is no where you can move. Idiots are everywhere these days. It has gotten increasingly worse here in the Charlotte area in the last couple of years.

Your right, it really does seem that in the past couple years peoples driving has gotten worse and worse.

Thanks for the praise, guys. Fortunately, it was my company car and not my personal car; I won't be stuck with it for the next 10 years. Unfortunately, I treat that car like its mine (polish, seal, wax, etc). It pains me to see something I've taken care of get wrecked because of some idiot who was late to work (or whatever).

When it happened, I seriously thought she got the WHOLE side of the car (since the mirror was all pushed in and everything). But it turned out to basically be the front pass area. The only thing that's going to be a headache with the whole experience is HER insurance. She has some insurance through an online company...I waited on hold for 20 minutes the phone rang like it was going to someone, then they picked up the phone and hung up! Then I had to wait (again) for another 20-25 minutes only to find out they don't service her policy (actually through another company). Called them and waited on hold for 35 minutes (no joke) to find out they will send (by mail, they wouldn't e-mail or fax them) forms for me to fill out, then I have to go to an "approved" body shop on their list to have it looked at (probably a bunch of Joe Blow's

). Then they will submit the estimate and it'll finally get repaired. What a crock.

And that's probably because they have very strict driving laws! I think its funny how some studies say that increasing the speed limit decreases fatalities and accidents(not that I know its true for sure, but seems logical), but we still have 55mph speed limits around the city here...sometimes I think its purely because of revenue (tickets) but whenever traffic is holed up, you can always count on it being the driver that actually is going the speed limit!

Man, I'm just glad you're not hurt. I know the headache of dealing with insurance companies. Hope it all comes out ok and isnt too much of a headache.

This is illegal in Massachusetts. Unless you know that for fact I would look into it in Chicago too.

Sorry to hear what happened at least no injuries. Oregon is rated most courteous drivers; just don't come to Philly wow city of brotherly love; not this city very mean people here very mean and driving just is not fun its dangerous.
