I was about to say that was perhaps the low point of Corvette engines, but obviously you don't see it that way. That whole period was pretty tough for GM. None of the early-80's carburated would run cold unless you "illegally" adjusted the idle mixture screws, which was standard dealer practice if the customer complained about it.

Join Date: Jan 2003 Location: Lees Summit MO Posts: 898 | Re: What's your fair-weather cruiser? The real trick to getting the Crossfire to run right was fuel pressure. As soon as I bought the car, I installed an '85 fuel pump (15 more pounds of pressure)... ever since, it has been perfect.

I'm not remembering problems with the Crossfire Injection engine, just that the HP wasn't much...although that whole late '70's thru the first year of the next gen wasn't too great on the HP scale, IIRC.

By '82 it had come back up to 200 horse, but with 340 ft/lb of torque. Combined with the 700R4 trans, it will smoke those big 255's! And a very nice cruiser.
I added roller rockers 3" exhaust with hi-flow cats, and hi-flow intake, so there are a few more ponies there also.

Not yet! It's still being finished and then I need to have the motor tuned. We also have cruising gears in it but that may change too...it doesn't take much to spin the big 285's in the rear.
