To me the european cars drive to hard, benz is actually softer than bmw and that is still too stiff for me, and to get all the features you get standard with the japanese cars you need to spend a lot more money.

Plus I like being able to feel the road and have a sense of whats going on. The last Lexus I drove was way too loose for my liking.

No squeaks, rattles, oil leaks, or problems whatsoever. Good mileage, good insurance rates, amazing dealerships, awesome resale, great for long distance and short jaunts, bot have great turning radiuses, and awesome steroe and navigation systems. E330 = 9/10, LS430 = 10+/10.
Have spent a good amount of time in the neighbors ES350 as well and a GS460 the ES is ok. I liked my ES330 better. The GS is amazing!! What a rocket! Nearly as refined as my LS and fast as hell. Pretty darn great handling too. WHAT a car!
My boss has a BWM 5 series. FUN FUN FUN! Looks AWEESOME! Flat out dangerous in the winter or heavy rain. He is a skilled driver to say the very least (been a racer for decades) but has nearly lost the thing a few times. Careful in inclement weather! Also it is costly to maintain. Insurance is pricey and mileage is low. It is NOT designed to be a vehicle that gets good gas mileage! Services are more expensive than my LS an the Beamer (2005) has had a number of piddling issues and a couple larger ones. ALL COMPLETELY covered under warranty as he is still around 40,000 miles. Window electronics, squeaks, a bad suspension part, HVAC issues, an engine miss, ECU and a major fuel system failure. However that said, fun car in the summer! Way funner than the GS.
Let us know how he chooses and what the results are as time goes on.

Was about to get a BMW myself, but got way too turned off by the interior. Even mainstream cars like Honda's have way better looking interiors. It's not a german thing since Benz makes pretty good looking interiors. Would get them myself, but the exterior seems too conservative in comparison to BMW.

They are just more spartan than a Lexus. BMW has nice clean lines and tight sporty supportive well bolstered seating. All in all a very high quality feel. Admittedly long trips in a BMW can break your a$$ but shorter trips and just fooling around on the weekends is more fun in this kind of seating. Much better road feel and control when you are playing with curves.
The interior controls for HVAC, nav, and such evade me. I think repairing a copier or solving a rubix cube are easier than figuring out the BMW control system. Very poor design. I bet there are a ton of accidents because of this foolishness. They need to abandon that idea ASAP.

Cheers , Jean Paul | Been getting good pre-reviews. Don't know the price range. Supposed to be a BMW fighter on BMW footings.
Looks great, but in that category, I gotta say the BMW has an edge in the looks department.
Good input as usual Jean!

And Toyota dealers can do the servicing (usually at a lower cost than the Lexus dealers). The main complaints I've seen about the Lexus is that it's "boring". Smooth, quiet, reliable...that kind of "boring" I like. Love my '02 LS430!!!

After owning many BMW's much prefer the comfort and handling of a Mercedes or Lexus. The BMW ride isn't luxurious.
The ES350 is especially nice!

I liked the seating in the 330 almost as much as my LS430. I really think Lexus took a step backwards in seating in comparison. BTW the LS460 has awesome seating, liked the GS too.
