Air bag light on after removing seat.

I decided to take the seats out of the Infiniti and i had to unplug the harnesses (power, heat, and side airbag). I took them out because it was 20 something degrees out and the leathers seats were dried and dirty. I cleaned/conditioned everything up and bolted them back into the car after replugging the harnesses. I did try turning on the car before i had the seats in so i can move it up the driveway and of course I expected the airbag light to blink without the seats in.

Everything is back in place and I fired it up. It threw the air bag light. I reached under the seats (without removing it) and tried my best to wiggle the connectors in place to make sure they're set. Fired up the car again and the same thing happened.

I was told to leave the car overnight with the battery unplug so i did that. Woke up the next morning and plugged the battery back in place and it still threw the light.

I was also told to disconnect the battery and touch the cables together to "discharge" the capacitors. Same thing again.

What's going on and what can I do to fix it? It's a 2001 Infiniti QX4 BTW.

Yeah, CEL's (check eng light) or in your case, airbag light will need to be reset via a tool at either the dealership or another fine automotive center that specilizes in Infinity or Nissans (same family) if you had a newer vw I have the software on my laptop to reset those but nada for your brand. Will not be free unless ya know someone...

Yep. Same thing happened with my Jeep. Had a faulty seatbelt latch, which caused the airbag light to come on, and I had to have the dealer reset it.

Re: Air bag light on after removing seat.

Find a small mechanic shop with a newer Snap-on computer and they can reset the Safety restraint system. Some newer car dealers can do it for 30-60 dollars if you tell them you are a dealer.

Whenever you unhook seats, you need to unhook the battery and do not put it back on until everything is together. Some cars do not even matter if you unhook the battery, it will still set the trouble mode on.

You might have to disconnect the battery and wait 15 to 20 min until the ECM goes off.

Re: Air bag light on after removing seat.

It's actually very easy to do, but you need a special tool, OBDII scanner to be exact. 30-60 dollars for that? Insane!!
Maybe your firends or neighbors have ScanGaugeII? You can reset the light using that thing too.

Re: Air bag light on after removing seat.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll take it to my mechanic soon and have him check it out and see if he can do anything about it. And i have to get the annual inspection done by the end of this month .
