Looking for a good wax

I have used Meguars Yellow Professional wax for years. It has seemed to be the most durable and give the best shine results. I've read that it is discontinued, so I need to find another good product. I'm not sure what to use so that's why I'm here to asl the pro's.

Would it be a good idea to use a sealer? I did have some stuff called Opal Luster but never used it.

I usually claybar, glaze(polish) and then wax every 4 months. I try to wax every 2 months inbetween that. In Fl we have lots of bugs, and the rain is harsh. I usually wash the vehicles every day, the GMC does not get driven much, so it usually does not go out of the carport & get dirty.

Thanks for any help.

The only wax I know that is being discontinued is Meguiars #16 Professional Paste Wax. I haven't heard that High Tech Yellow #26 is going away too.

If you want a good, reasonably durable paste wax, I'd suggest Poorboy's Natty's Paste or Finish Kare's Pink Wax.

Yellow professional wax? Sounds like Meguiar's #26, which isn't discontinued. It's still widely available in stores and online, so you're not forced to switch.

Meg's #16, which is light blue and comes in a blue can, is the wax that is being discontinued.

I stand corrected =) Someone told me that the #26 was being discontinued. I was a bit nervous.

Is that a good choice to keep using it, or is there better stuff that can give added shine and better protection?

You can see the truck in my sig link. My other car is black---pin in the butt to keep clean..lol

Added shine is subjective, so you're on your own for that one. Everyone likes something different, and about once a week someone always asks for suggestions, which always results in practically every product in existence being named.

For better protection, everyone will agree that a sealant will last longer. Some don't like how they look on black cars, while others prefer it.

If you like the look of #26, you'd probably also like Poorboy's EX w/carnauba since they have a very similar look, especially on black. EX is definitely more durable and wipes off with incredible ease.

Nothing wrong with staying with #26 if you are happy with it though. It is an excellent wax.

Of course, its all relative and subject to opinion. But Trade Secret flat out blows everything away for black cars. On top of that, Hi Temp (Top of the LIne) offers TWO different types of Carnauba Black Wax made especially for Black cars. Trade Secret, or a Black Carnauba would be my choice.

Blitz may be a good wax but I could not get over all the white staining I'd find on trim the next day. Even when I tried to be careful with the applicator, it was there. What drove me crazy was that you can't see it until after it dries. This is why I'm now a fan of #16 and have stocked up.

well this is a topic that never discussed here on this board, but i would go with NU FINISH, you only have to use in once a year and it looks and protects great!

P21S is my new favorite every day wax, but the real results wax IMO goes to the Zymol Estate Glazes.

In terms of affordability and user friendliness, I'd recommend P21S for durability, Mother's California Gold for cost and consistency, and Pinnacle for high sheen on dark colors. You will, of course, have to try any wax for yourself to judge its results.

I would suggest to retain #26 if you like it. I do use it. I like how it darkens the paint. IMO it's the most practical alternative to #16 in the megs line since it was discontinued. I don't go for the NXT paste or liquid. I find #26 to be more durable than NXT.

But if you want a reflective shine (not much of depth) like #16, go for the S100.

I stand by Blitz. Always had consistent great results with it. I can ussually go at least 3 mos without reapplying. I usually tape up the black rubber moldings so I never have a problem with staining. I cans ee where it can be annoying without tape.

What's the trick with using #16? I've used it one time and I must have done something wrong because my arm about fell off trying to buff this stuff off. I haven't used it again since. Did I go to heavy, let it sit too long? I've been using NXT because it's so easy to use, but something tells me #16 is much more durable.

While I don't think #16 is as easy to use as Souveran or P21S, it is more durable than either of them. The key is not to let it sit too long. I know the directions say to let it dry to a haze and so some people apply it to the whole car before they start removing it. I believe it is better to apply it to one panel at a time and then remove it within a minute after application. It is also important to keep the layers as thin as possible. Only a small amount of the wax bonds to the paint and the thicker you put it on, the more that will have to be removed.

Mike is right, with #16, apply a thin layer, and a panel or two at a time them remove. You do it that way and it is a piece of cake to use.
