Cleaning and Protecting Bugshield

My new bugshield instructions say to clean only with soap and water, and not use "anything that contains solvents." The shield is acrylic and dark smoke color. Is their main worry that solvents might remove the tint? I had read somewhere that some folks use Stoner Invisible Glass to clean theirs. Does this contain "solvents"? Should I put something like 303 on it periodically? Thanks.

I would think Plexus or one of the Meguiar's plastic polishes would be ideal. I've used Plexus on a convertible's plastic window and it worked great.

I think the "no solvents" thing is to discourage the use of naptha or turpentine or whatever goofy stuff some good ol' boy will think of using.

And ya can't go wrong with soap and water.

Thanks for the suggestions. I already have 303 Aerospace. Are there any advantages of Plexus over 303?

plexus is also a polish, not just a protectant.

I have also used a product called "craftics 20/20 plastic polish", as well as Novuus plastic polish (both obtained from jcwhitney)

I may get one of those hood shields for my SUV. Some I've seen look like they could trap dirt/leaves and be a pain to clean. What brands stick up away from the hood to allow for easy washing/waxing, and also don't rub against the painted edge of the hood lip?

actually they dont trap as much as you would think. I had one on my van by Lund..... it was actually simple to remove, just 4 screws. I would remove it once a year so I could really clean/wax behind it.

They all fit differenently.

mine standa off about 2" so I can clean behind easy enough.

It is scared from bug crash hemuts though. Gonna clean it up after our bug season come May.
