clearcoat checking...

what are your options with regards to checking...looks like a bunch of "3 spoke" cracks all over this car's paint....should he keep waxing to slow down the sun baking it off, or is it a lost cause?

Re: clearcoat checking...

That is about all you can do,once the clear coat has failed, the only real way to restore the cars good looks is to either have a repaint,or if you the owner can find a good shop, have them re shoot the clear, although this isn't always very successfull.

If the owner wants to keep the car as it is,then just seal the surface, and try to hide it as best as you can(difficult though).

Re: clearcoat checking...

Lost cause, plus any polishing or waxing will leave residue in the cracks making it look even worse. I ran into that all the time when I was first starting out detailing in the early 90s and a lot of the full sized 80s GM cars were still on the road.

Re: clearcoat checking...

I had some success in hiding paint checking in the past. From a few feet away it was hardly noticeable.

Re: clearcoat checking...

If you saw the X-kote thread in the C&B, maybe it'd be the right product for these issues. Obviously, I don't know how X-kote fills or acts, but it is imaginable that it can help.
