Curb Rash On Side Skirt.

what would you suggest as far as SANDING on a curb rash on the bottom of a plastic sideskirt? the area is pretty scuffed up and def. needs to be sanded. Just didnt know which grade to go with.

also, do they make any type of wheel paint touch up? or is not even worth it?

Re: Curb Rash On Side Skirt.

Like Steve said, if it is bad enough you may need to use a body filler. If so make sure the one you use it alright to use on plastic panels.

Re: Curb Rash On Side Skirt.

i dont have pics yet, but it does not need body filler. only the paint is chipped off, there is still white visible and a little piece of the black is showing on the plastic skirt. Prob jus need to sand down with 1500-2000 to smooth down the ruff edge

Re: Curb Rash On Side Skirt.

Well, my Jetta is lowered and I backed into a small ditch and my sideskirts rubbed in some gravel. Well, it looked pretty bad on the bottom. I looked at the paint and determined that it didn't break through the clear. So, what I did was take some 1000 grit sandpaper and wetsanded wherever the rash was until it disapeared. Then, I took some 3M heavy duty rubbing compund and put it on a rotary buffer with a wool pad. That took the marring away caused by the sandpaper. Then, I took some 3M Imperial Microfinishing compund and hit it with a rotary to bring the shine back. I finished with the machine with some Megs #9. By hand, I added Klasse about 3 days later and then 24 hrs after that, I added some P21S. They look as good as new.

However, if the curb rash broke through the clear, you will need to take some 1200 and the reclear. If it broke through the clear and the color, you will need to repaint the skirt or at least add some touch up paint, hit it with some 1200 grit paper and then follow the directions above.
