Finally gave in....

I finally gave in to my son's pleading. I let him paint his scuff plates on his Prelude. He had to agree that this was the end of the blue theme, except for when he can affort the Wet Okole's for the back seat! He did a real good job, cleaned them with degreaser, scuffed them with a 3M scuff pad and sprayed the Royal Blue paint. The hardest part was waiting 5 days until I let him shoot the clear coat on. You've heard the old expression "watching the paint dry"! At 15 years old, patience is in very short supply, but I was able to give him enough other jobs to prevent him driving me nuts asking if I thought the clear was dry enough to put the plates back on the car.

You really should paint the part around the door handle blue too. Its usually one of the parts that gets painted so it sort of sticks out.

Maybe you can explain the attraction to painting interior pieces? My car is white on the outside and black on the inside. I like it like that. I've seen people that paint parts that they can to match the outside but I've never really understood why they do that. Is it a taste thing or is it significant in some way? I'm not flaming. I'm just trying to figure out what the inspiration is to paint your interior pieces. Up till now I think the new PT Cruiser is the only car I've seen. Well, that and the new T Bird. Maybe a couple other concepts and such but not really any of the normal cars come like that.

MY inspiration for the blue is my 15 year old son. You'd have to ask a 15 year old I guess to know why they like such things. He loves it and his buddies just flip when they see it. When I was 15 I was too busy looking for cigarettes, beer, or some other thing to cause problems, so I'll be happy to let him paint it baby s**t yellow if it keeps him out of harms way a little.

2 tone leather on merc's rule! On the ML55s you can get the designo cognac edition for around 5 grand. It comes with a special exterior paint and black nappa (the really soft buttery nude leather, mmmm ) with inserts that match the exterior color. Also the leather on the door matches the exterior color. Looks unbelievable and ooo the smell is overwhelming!!! I love that smell!

I know a couple people with Blue civic SIs who painted the interior trim pieces the same blue color as the car. They did the console, window button area on the doors and all those little plastic type pieces... it actually look really really good. Put some of the blue collor more at eye level inside the car. Here's a pic of a show car.. maybe a little overdone.. but i like it. (won at quite a few shows too)

Jngrbrdman,

I had to chuckle...... Why does any teenager do what he does??? No doubt they asked the same thing about me when I was a teen. It's not like I was looking to make a statement or something.
