Tw Tire Wax...You Guys Really Like This Stuff?

Well, I went ahead and tried the TW Tire Wax on my daily driver....this stuff will be doing time on the shelf for sure.

I know that many Autopians had chimed in that they like this particular product - wish I could say the same. I followed the instructions to the letter, and I found it rather difficult to work with.

The absolute worst part was the awful slinging that took place with this stuff. (And yes, I did buff.) I ended up having to scrub down the plastic trim as this stuff ended up everywhere. Gross.

I will return back to the Z-16 for now as that does not sling and is much easier to work with, just wish the shine was a tad glossier.

Do you think the tire wax came out of the rubber and then ended up on the paint?

Thats because you got the wrong stuff . We all chime about the finish 2001 turtle wax tire GEL not tire WAX. tire WAX is garbage and is a waste of money. The finish 2001 stuff is in a bright green bottle and is discontinued. It seemed to sling off a little on the huge sidewalls of my ML320, but it works great on the low profile tires of the Lexus. I think the stuff is great

In a previous thread that I had begun we were discussing the performance of TW Tire Wax, and not the gel. I understand that there is a difference.

There were several Autopians that had stated that they liked the Tire Wax, so I figured I'd give it a try.

Maybe the tire gel does indeed perform better (the slinging from the tire wax was terrible and after one small rain, it was completely gone) but I'll never find out, because I don't have much interest in trying another Turtle Wax product.

you might want to try out meguiar's endurance next...... I've never had any problems whatsoever with it........ plus its really easy to work with when applied on a foam pad or an eagle one tire swipe.

just make sure not to pick up the high gloss or you will be hating it....... trust me I know this.......

Turtle Wax Tire Wax is one of my favorite tire dressings. I have expierenced absolutely zero slinging (zilch!), and it leaves a not-too-shiny black finish on the tires for a couple weeks or more.

Are you sure you cleaned the tire thoroughly to remove the old tire dressing?? Just a thought, I'm sure you did it, though.

I purposely use Turtle Wax Tire Wax because it does not sling off onto my paint. I admit that maybe it has to low of a glossy sheen for some, but after I apply two coats and buff it out thoroughly my tires look clean and new. I hope I didn't steer you wrong I really like this product, and I really hate when other dressing spray up onto my black paint. (even after buffing)

I did not like this product inicially because it does not evenly cover the tire with one coat.

The tires that I was working with were actually free from any other tire dressings because they were brand new with maybe 300 miles on them. I had washed/dried them prior to using the Tire Wax. For some reason, the slinging was really bad.

I also found that after application and letting the product sit as directed on the box, it formed a thick gel that was a bit of work to buff off. I felt that the Tire Wax applied easily, it was the removal that was a bit of a surprise.

You did not steer me in the wrong direction. I had wanted to give this stuff a try anyway - there's no harm done. I'm glad that it works better for you and that you are pleased with it. In my experience, the slinging was terrible. It does make me wonder why people's experiences with the same products can be so different though.

Oh well... nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I've been using TWTW for a couple of years now, and have never had any slinging problems. However, I never encountered the product forming a thick gel after application. I agree with Clean Dean that two coats are necessary. In addition, the tires must be clean and dry before application. Perhaps what you washed the tires with interacted with the TWTW to cause the gel and the slinging problem.
While I'm here, I tried TWTW as well as several other protectants on the rubber and plastic on my T-tops. After a rain I get a smeary line of the stuff running down the windows. I know it's runoff of the protectant. Anybody found something that doesn't do this?
