Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Omaha, NE Posts: 90 | Rust spot on new car? Please help! So I got this spot on my hood. Looks like rust and I can barely feel it with my fingernail. It kinda looks like a mole, a dark spot with a ring of lighter 'stuff' expanding up and to the right of it. Claying didn't seem to help much if any.

Join Date: Sep 2002 Location: NE Ohio Posts: 20,886 | It almost looks like it might be a chip, but it's probably just some ferrous contamination that's bonded to the panel and has started to rust.
You might find a decontamination system's acidic step helpful, but it'd hardly seen sensible to buy the whole system for one spot. Maybe somebody who has some on hand could sell/send you an ounce or two. I'm all out myself...
Note that the sooner you do whatever you're gonna do the better, once the rust gets a toehold it gets a lot harder to eliminate. | |
