VW Clear Coat Thick or Thin, Hard or Soft

I have a 2004 VW and the clearcoat is definitely hard. I've had quite a time trying to get swirls out. Neither Optimum Compound nor Menzerna IP using 4" orange pads and PC at speed 6 did anything. I went to the Cyclo with Optimum Compound and SSR2.5, but that didn't do anything either. I've been using some pretty aggressive combos short of a rotary. If anyone finds a method that works I'm all ears!

Much as I like the folks who run properautocare.com, I wouldn't put much stock in that article (or at least I wouldn't generalize too much about German paint). They use a picture of an Audi A6 as an example of that soft clear Heh heh, I had a few of those A6s and their clear is *HARD* as in, use-a-rotary hard.
