Hey guys! I'm detailing my car today! Please help!

Hey everyone!

I'm new to this site. I was referred here by a friend. I own a 2000 toyota celica gts 6 speed. Since I have today and tomorrow off of work, I've decided to spend some time detailing my baby. I've tried to detail it before, and the best job I ever did was when I washed, applied scratch x over the entire car, and then waxed the car. Even after that I still had water spots, swirl marks, etc.

I need some help deciding on what store products I can buy to get the best detailing job. The other day I got a ton of water spots because it started raining when the sun was out. So basically I want your guys' input on what products to buy so I can detail my car tonight.

I also want to mention that my dad has some kind of maching buffer, so I want to use that tonight also, but I've never used one before. Do I have to buy some sort of pads? If so, which kind?

I would appreciate any help. By the way, my car is carbon blue in color (a very dark blue, looks black most of the time, can only see blue directly under the sun).

Thanks guys!

Hey and welcome to the madness!
The best thing that I can suggest is to download the free e-book and then take it from there.

Awesome info and it covers just about everything you want to know and more. Search here and follow links and ask lots of questions to get even further. Not trying to be evasive at all but there are just so many variables, differences of opinion and desired results wanted/needed that the guide is an awesome place to start and you really cannot go wrong with the Mayor's methods and recommended products.
There are OTC variants of what you need so don't worry about that.

Have fun and show us your results!

Eric

First, "Welcome!" But be careful, my friend! "Some kind of buffer" could spell disaster for you, a first time user! Is it a rotary (not good for the first time user) or a random orbital? This info would go a long way to advise you what pads/products to use.

I think you might be rushing things a little by wanting to do the detail "tonight". Get some more info and do it right!

autoprecise1 is an unknown quantity at this point
A little tip the dark blue color shows a whole lot of everything if you screw it up. Dark blue is one of those colors that if not done right it will show. Learn some stuff before you buff or you'll learn that you should have learned first.
