I've tried a few
waterless wash products, and they all clean well. However, I've noticed that to completely remove the smearing, I have to buff quite a lot, and all this buffing worries me because I think this is where I risk scratching - not the initial wipe-off. (just a gut feeling I have) When I wax, I don't feel this concern when I remove the powder residue - I just don't seem to have to rub firmly at all to remove all the powder. I reckon it's easier to remove the wax than to completely remove all the residue from the waterless was fluids I've used.
So, has anyone found a waterless wash product (or QD) for which the residue completely dries out to a powder, and this powder being easy to remove?
Just as an aside, I've had a similar kind of experience with glass cleaners. They clean fine, but it can be difficult to remove the smears afterwards. I find that I have to be able to *see* the smears in order to reliably remove it all - it isn't always easy to get the angle of the light just right to see all the smears. (although I've become quite proficient at doing this now, in the dark, with a torch) Anyway, I tried using my Mothers pre-wax cleaner on my glass, and wow - this dries to a powder, and is easy to buff off, leaving no smears. (I now have some
Autoglym glass polish but I haven't opened it yet - my understanding is that this also dries to a powder, so I'm probably going to like it)
Currently, I'm using plain water to wipe my car down daily, and this does work very well. Yes, I could be scratching the surface more than I was when using the WW, but I honestly don't have that feeling. I usually don't even bother buffing the car after wiping down with water because so little residue is left. Also, I'm mindful of the fact that because I'm cleaning the car so frequently, that in itself could be reducing the risk of scratching because I'm not letting the dirt/grime build up.
