Question Swirls on '96 black Porsche 993

Hey guys,

I've been reading this forum for a few weeks in preparation for some serious first-time detailing of my 993. This forum is an amazing resource!

It was Zaino'd last Fall following directions to the T. I Dawn'd it, followed by Z1, Z2 and 4 or 5 layers of Z5 with 2 or 3 of Z6 in between. Swirls are less visible but still there .

Carguy: I read your back to black post and others; great info! Not sure if you still think FI-II followed by SMR is the way to go for Porsche black. Definitely softer than Ferrari black.

I'm planning on acquiring a PC 7336 from Lowe's and getting the pad kit from CMA. Given that Porsche black paint is very soft and that it's been Zaino'd what series of steps do you guys recommend? Does the Zaino need to come off, if so how?

Thanks a bunch!

You should probably try 3m SMR before you use FI-II and see if that removes the swirls.

I've been working on my dark blue truck today with SMR and a direct drive buffer. It is really looking good. I think SMR and a PC will take the swirls you have right out.

Absolutely, always start with the least aggressive product. If you don't get the results you like, then and only then move up to something with more bite to it. Laters

Yes, this is still what I would recommend. I recently tried a couple of other possible compunds as substitutes for FI-II including Meguiar's Dual Action Cleaner/Polish - but it wasn't as aggressive as the FI-II and didn't get the job done. Having used FI-II more now, I would work it more than I did when I last used it on the Porsche, and then I might try Meguiar's #9 SM 2.0 instead of the 3M stuff. Then put on a base and, if you want to see an amazing trnasformation, give Souveran a try. Just watch out for the residue.
