3m swirl mark remover for light cars?

I just ordered some 3m smr for my black jetta. It came to my local UAP Napa store as SMR for light cars? What is the difference between the SMR for light cars vs dark cars. Is it safe to use on my dark car? I don't want to return it if I don't have to as it was a special order for me. Will the dark formula work alot better for my dark car?

It will work fine on your dark car. The only difference is the color of it so a black car does not get white residue spec in all the chips and cracks and vise-a-versa.

BUT....assuming those were correct. The biggest difference is in the % of abrasives. A difference of 5-10% will not mean much. It is more dependant on the size and shape of the abrasives which are probably identical for the 2 systems.

It wouldn't make sense for them to make 2 different formulas anyhow. Just make the white stuff all the time, and when they want black, add a colorant at the end of the batch. I would place my bets that is what 3M does.........

Puterbum, if you look closely you'll see that both formulas deal in ranges of percent, not exact numbers. The ranges of both formulas overlap so they could both well be the same formula. For example if you plug in these specific numbers it will fit both formulas (and add up to 100%).

Water 60.0
Distillates 15.0
Alum Oxide 10.0
Naphtha 10.0
Glycerin 4.0
Mineral Oil 1.0

Total 100.0

I'm not saying this is the exact recipe, but if they told you that you might be tempted to brew up a batch yourself.

I'm inclined to agree with DK, they are probably both very close to being the same formula.

but I remember the different ranges of values led me to think one contained more abrasive content than the other. Notice I am not saying one has more cut than the other.

thanks for the replies. I'll be keeping the smr as dark or light formula is basically the same.
