Painters tape for a short road trip?

Would I affect my top coat of Natty's by using 3m painters tape to cover the front end for my upcoming road trip?

Looking at about 3 hours one way, but my concern is there is construction for most of the way and wouldn't mind an extra layer of protection on the front end that I have spent countless hours polishing over the past couple of years.

I know this is a popular thing to do for the road racing guys, just want to make sure there are no ill effects.

Anyone who has some knowledge in the matter feel free to chime in.

You might want to look into stuff called racer's tape, it will probably stick better than the painter's tape and offer more protection. I don't think painter's tape is really think enough to do what you want it to, this stuff probably is. And no, it shouldn't hurt the wax underneath.

I saw in the Griot's catalog a "spray on bra"....

Griot's Spray On Protection Bra

I would assume this is probably available other places for less $$$.

HTH!

Gears is an unknown quantity at this point
Racers tape is similar to duct tape. Its the stuff they use to hold on their fenders after they hit the wall. You don't want this on your car.

I think the advice of two layers of wide blue painters tape is good.

The 3M blue painter tape will be fine. I have used it on my G ater a Zaino treatment or 3 for a 3hr ride to AC for HIN last year. It did the job and then some.

Use the 3M brand painter's tape

I've had some bad experiences with other brands using them in actual "painting" scenarios and I've always fallen back on the 3M brand. The 2" wide tape will work perfectly for your application. They will definitely not leave a residue if removed within a logical amount of time (ie, not days). If anything, just apply another coat of Natty's. That's always fun isn't it?

Good luck,
Mike

Man I would feel weird with that on the front of the car, but better than the alternative I guess.

dont let the painters tape sit on the car too long when wet....i let some sit on my trim while doing a complete makeover on it and had to leave it outside overnight and lots of the glue is still on the trim to this day because its a bear to get off
