First Serious Wax for Copper Mazda 6

Hello all!

I am a car enthusiast, and thought I knew a good deal about 'detailing' till I found this site at a recommendation from a fellow member of www.mazda6tech.com

Anyways - to the point!

I own a 2004 Mazda 6s, and will be giving the car its first wax since the dealer's wax on purchase. It is Blazing Copper color.

Typically, I have used Megiuars Gold Class...on an 01 GMC Sonoma.

Since this is a 'different' color, I was hoping to get some feedback on Wax Product (that I can get in a store, not online), and some advice on whether or not to purchase a orbital buffer for the buffing after applying wax by hand...

First, what is a great wax to use for such a color? The color is called "Blazing Copper" and is just that, not rustish, not bronze, not orange. Its a lively copper that looks superb when clean, and best at dusk...IMO

Second, I was going to purchase a Craftsman Random Orbiting Polisher/Buffer for the buffing of the wax I apply by hand. Is this silly? Does it work? Is it better than using elbow grease?

Sounds like a heavy metallic paint?
Personally I'd go for Zaino, Souveran, Blue Natty's or maybe DP Max Wax. No doubt you'll get a few recommendations, but the only way you'll know for sure what's good is to try out a few and see what you like.

I'm not familiar with the Craftsman machine, but just be a little careful when buffing off a wax as you might remove more than residue if you do it too hard and/or too long. Souveran and Max Wax are such a joy to use I really like to apply and buff off by hand all the way.

I know the color and DP's MAx Wax will look awesome with excellent durability. You should clay/polish the paint first. Buy a porter cable buffer. m2c

I think you mentioned products that you can get locally and not have to order online. Mothers FX and Reflections seem to get some good reviews as does Meg's NXT, although I've not used either. You can check out the Zaino site and possibly find a local distributor for their products.

As tdedkany mentioned above you really do want to clay and polish your paint before you put on an lsp, prep is what really makes a difference in the appearance.

Id say AIO followed by a few UPP layers would be great on that color. I've noticed that UPP without a topper really makes metallic flake stand out. It should look great on your color.
