Cleaning stock wheels for a 91 maxima help!

I have alot of oily like substance within the gaps on my wheels of my 91 maxima. What is the best way to clean and get rid of the oily like substance? Is dawn liquid hand detergent good?

Eagle 1 A to Z wheel cleaner should do the trick. You might need a small brush to get into the crevices though.

No detergents

A lot wheels today have clearcoat or some other types of wax, and detergents will likely remove whatever coating might be left. I use Blackfire Wheel & Tire Gel, but there are a hundred good cleaners on the markey. If the wheels were well maintained and just a little dirty, I'd recommend just using car wash soap and a wheel brush, but sounds like you may need a little more power. Just use water-based products in any event. Good luck.

I just detailed a 96 Maxima yesterday. The wheels looked similar to what you are describing. The oily looking stuff is caked on brake dust. You are going to need a strong wheel cleaner to remove. A pressure washer also helps.

If the wheels are like the paintwork on the car that you posted in another thread...they may be permanently etched.
