I just saw a Swizöl (aka Swissol) detail clinic on a German TV.

The rep invited the guests in a luxury hotel. Lecture in a conference hall, practice in the garage. There were about 10 cars; mainly Mercs. Two exceptions were a Maybach and a Fiat.

First, they started to wash the chosen vehicle (the Fiat Cinquecento; 800cc, 3 m long) with terry rags! It was pretty swirled up but they only used a mild cleaner glaze with MF pads.

The guests then learned the bare hand wax application method, and applied the carnauba onto the little Fiat. OMG what thick layers!

Then they buffed it off and were super satisfied. I could hear AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHs, WWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWs, OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHs only and they were sooo happy!

Ah, yup, the clinic cost them €255 - with lunch, of course...

On the other hand, Meguiar's detailing clinics involve PC training and other more advanced methods and I believe they are free.

Scottwax, Are the clinics held in various cities around the country or just in California?

Mostly in Irvine where they are based but they do travel. I once attended one of their classes at my Meguiars distributor in Dallas when they had their semi trailer classroom.

If you go to http://meguiaronline.com you can find out more about their classes. Even if you use other products, you will learn a lot about the basics and beyond of detailing.

Don't you know, the more expensive the wax, the more of it that will bond, so you gotta plaster on those layers!
I know if I paid that much for a class, I'd use AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE as well. It's like a buffet. You eat more even when you're not hungry.
