Sonus DAS Backing Plate loops?

Is there any way to revitalize the "sticking" ability of the backing plate? At first I thought it was the back of the pad that wore but after sticking some strips on the plate, I realized the problem was the backing plate.
Any solutions other than replacing the plate and/or sticking strips to the plate? It doesn’t appear you can just peel the existing loops away from the polyurethane.

There mite be some cheap fix but i would just spent 15 bucks on a new backing plate as you want to make absolutely sure that pad stays on the plate as it all thats between the plate and your paint. A few buck it not worth a minor disaster
