My GLI was just rear ended today

My black 03 VW GLI was just rear ended sitting in line at a traffic light earlier today. Not a lot of damage but heart breaking just the same, I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. Does anyone know what the paint process is, as the bumper will have to be repainted? Do they need to wet sand after it is clear coated and will they want to polish it as well. I want them to do only what is neccessary and I will finish the detailing my self. I would like to know before I take it in.

why don't you just let the body shop know what you want from them. But first have them write up every thing that is entailed in getting your car back to new. Then you can deduct the cost of materials & Products (not used). Pocket the money from the total cost and polish and wax it the way you want it.

Wow, sorry to hear that, glad you're OK.

If the damage is confined to the bumper cover havet them work on it off the vehicle and do whatever it takes to keep them from messing up the rest of the car. All too often, the actual accident repair goes OK but then they "clean up the car" and you get marring all over it.

When I have bumper covers redone, I insist that they not touch (literally) anything else on the vehicle. Period, written into the work order. They do the (usually new) bumper cover and then install it, not doing anything at all that involves the rest of the car.

All it takes is one careless wash and you'll be spending hours/days trying to fix it.

They may/may not wetsand/polish the repainted areas. All depends on the shop. I'd expect that they *will*, another reason why you don't want them messing with the rest of the car.
