Cleaning glass with newspaper...

Does anyone here use newspaper (and either water or glass cleaner) to clean your windows? I have heard that the ink on the newspaper actually acts as a polish on the glass. I used the newspaper and water in a spray bottle to clean my glass. It seemed to have scratched the hell out of my windows and mirrors. They could have been there before (and I just never noticed them), but I'm not sure. Can newspaper scratch your glass?

Newspapers use a different ink now so the polishing doesn't hold true anymore. Still works for a lint free cleaning though.

Not sure if paper can scratch glass but it can definately scratch window tint, guage cluster cover, and possibly even the mirror as some aren't glass.

Consider spending the money to get one or two microfiber towels just for cleaning windows.

Thanx for the advice...I actually have MF towels for my glass, but I just wanted to try the newspaper for comparison.

I actually just ordered more glass towels from Poorboy's on Saturday.

I got a pack of his velvet smooth microfiber towels not that long ago and they're working out great for me!

The weave of them seems to grab and stick to the glass more than the YoSteve towels I've been using for awhile. They don't lint at all either.

I've used newspaper on windows ever since I first learned the trick WAY back in boot camp for getting mirrors and windows streak free for inspections. Yeah, using it on plexi and tint would be a bad idea but on glass it works great. Never thought of the ink being a polish but the results have always been streak and lint free. Never had problems with scratching glass either. BTW, wear gloves unless you like getting ink all over your hands. Thinking about it...unless the windows are squeeky clean before using the newspaper, grit on the glass could cause scratches. Hope this helps.

I've been using Armor All glass wipes. One step, no lint no streaks.

I use newspaper also, it does give a you a streak free finish. If you read the back of the stoners invisi glass it actually suggests it under the "a little secret of the pro's" part. I prefer it over my MF

I use newspaper and Stoner's IG on the exterior windows. MFs with EF Clear Vision on the inside (tints).

I've used newspaper with water before and was not impressed as I was with Stoners.

I've heard that small amounts of toothpaste can help with polishing windows? Anyone heard of this?
