I was hoping that statement would attract your attention. In my search for buying my PC and pads I have learned quite a few things which brings up several questions.
Why is the PC typically paired up with a 6 " backing plate? It is well known the counterweight needed to avoid vibrations must be a 6" one inorder to compensate for the heavy pad but does that mean a 6" backing plate must also be used?
After reading thread, after thread I realize that one of the main problems with the PC is the 6" backing plate. In particular the 6" backing plate which tends to cut into the foam pad because the velcro on the back of the pad doesnt overlap. Even if uneven pressure is applied to the pad the velcro should still protect the pad. In the following thread many autopians have experienced the same problem and with a little injenuity have over come it but is this really necessary?

In essence there are only two permanent solutions which I see.
Either the pads we use must either be made with velcro completely the covering the back, or a 5" backing plate can be should be used Imho. Here on Autopia, our Grand Master David B is selling a 5" backing plate with some 6" pads which seems to me a step in the right direction.
I know some autopians already use the 5" backing plate but I just wanted to bring this problem out into the open to save newbees such as my self from unnecessary searching and confusion.
Any other suggestions or critics to this thread is more then welcome.
