Talking My first car show!

Time for my first car show! Heres the details:

I'm entering along with my two uncles and cousin. The uncles each are entering old Mopars that they restored. One is a '69 Roadrunner that was recently featured in Mopar magazine, the other is a Challenger. The cousin (who is 15 like me) is entering his '00 Dakota Sport. We're all going to meet up the day before the event (next Sat.) and have a big detail session. Of course the first thing that came to mind when my uncle said I should enter was how I was going to detail. I am not going to go all out and get Zaino or Klasse or any of that. I've got a couple layers of NuFinish on there right now. Much to my suprise, the Roadrunner uncle uses Turtle Wax and NuFinish for shows!! He will apply the NF and buff it out, then put the TW Emerald Glaze over the top and buff it, and it leaves an impressive shine. I was thinking aobut getting some Meguiars paste wax and run it over the top and buff off, and I'm hoping that will bring more shine off of it for the show. I'm not worried about how long it lasts since the show is only a few hours. What # for the Meguiars? I can pick it up from Advance Auto, Walmart or Kmart, or Autozone. Which kind of the paste should I pick up, and from which store?

I washed really good today using one of my concoctions. I didnt want to have to put the shampoo in a bucket and have to throw out dirty water and put new in along the way since it was pretty chilly with the wind blowing, so I put my car wash (Zip Wax, soon to be Meguiars! ) and its sorta thick, so I put a little smidge of QD in there and shook it all up. I sprayed it on the panels and went about washing as usual, just minus the bucket and everything. Worked really good. After I dried everything I painted my fenderwells and suspension, might use a second coat, except matte black instead of gloss, whenever I go down Saturday. I sprayed out the engine compartment and that really cleaned everything up good. I'm going to take off the intake so I can reach down further in to scrub things. The interior is vacuumed and cleaned up real good. Now I need to QD to get any water spots I overlooked, clean wax residue off of trim (the peanut butter really works!) and clean leftover wax out of nooks and crannies.

Going to try to get a new exhaust tip since my current one is starting to get little flecks of rust. Gonna get some Eagle 1 20/20, some E1 tire gel, maybe the swipes to go along with them. Might pick up some small Ford decals, but I doubt it, one or two stickers are enough, dont want to overkill. Want to get a new plate to stick on there temporarily since theres a Mark Martin one on there now from when he was with Valvoline. I might take off my roof rack crossbars since they are a little sun faded. I'm going to try to hook up my subs and load them in there, might snag me a point or two, and I wouldnt load them in if they werent hooked up, since I'd be embarassed if someone asked me to hit a bass note with them and I couldnt. I will take some good pictures and report back on how everything goes. What sucks is that the show is in a field! I'd hate to get my tires dirty Oh well, wish me luck!

Everything sounds good!

I would say a good consumer wax is Mother's. I find it very similar to Blitz, except for worse durability. Meguiar's Hi-Tech Yellow #26 is good too.

Make sure the paint is smooth & swirl-free first, because the two products don't have any cleaners or abrasive.

A tip a friend gave me is to make sure that the heads of all the screws are lined up, so the Phillips screws look like a "+" sign. But becareful not to over tighten as this may crack plastic. Also adjust the front seats at the same angle/location, align the steering wheel, brush your carpet in one direction, and adjust all of your air vents so they look organized.

Good luck!

Just an update

Well, I cleaned tehr oof today (which doesnt get cleaned as often as the rest) and waxed it, put some Back to Black on my bugshield (helped a LOT) , QD'd the leftover waterspots off, wiped out the inside of the rear hatch, cleaned up teh exhaust tip, painted a little more of the suspension that I didnt get the first time, just little things. Tomorrow I'm getting a new tip, a chrome slash cut square one, so that will look really cool as long as I bend the tailpipe to a more horizontal position. If anybody has any suggestions as to anything else I cna do to dress up a little more for the show, please let me know
