Will 50/50 isopropyl/water remove NXT?

My friend and I are going to start working on his Civic. Paint in decent condition but needs clay and a polish but he doesn't want to polish.

I'll be using WG twins so pre-polish should cover up some swirls.

He already has NXT (3 coats.) I want to start clean.

Question is this: will a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol/water remove the NXT? Should this be done before or after claying? Or does it not matter?

Thx for any advice.

Since IPA/water will remove most anything, I'm sure it will remove NXT.

Doesn't really matter when you do it. And the WG polish will remove whatever the IPA misses.

Yes, the 50/50 should remove just about anything on the surface. But if in doubt, the WG Polish should remove anything that is left after that.

Thanks all!

My mind tells me it's wrong to spray alcohol all over a car but if it works, it works.

Thanks again!

Not to start a Dawn or a NXT flame..... but I venture to guess a dawn wash would probably strip NXT, as it is not all that durable IMHO.

Does the NXT even have to be removed, or can you start with the WG sealer ?

Thanks

I want to remove the NXT so that I can lay down WG polish in order to give WG sealant something to bond to. I'm not confident that the WG sealant will bond to NXT.

Any paint cleaner will remove everything to the clear. If the WG polish is a paint cleaner, it'll remove the NXT. Failing that, all the stuff below will. Mother's pre-wax cleaner, any Meguiar's paint cleaner, AIO, P21S GEPC, PPCL, etc.
