Dewalt 443

Hi guys,

Since in my country there is no PC available and only DW443, I've ordered one and after conversion is around USD68 and I think it is really a good bargain.

I did a search in this forum and found that DW443 is the second most popular ROB after PC7424/7336.The only thing I couldn't find is wether I can use this with MG 6.5" or 8" pads with it's own backing plate.Only MG's polishing pads are available in my country.

Another question is the DW443 backing plate can be changed to other?Thanks.

Hi tot31, welcome to Autopia.

I honestly don't know if you can change the backing plate or not. You could always try contacting DeWalt and asking them, or wait and see if it's detachable when you get it.

I am pretty sure that it can use both those sizes of pads (most people use the more handy 6.5" pads) as I believe the backing plate is 6".

Hope that helps.

Thanks 4DSC for the reply an the warmth welcome.I was hoping an answer from autopians who are using the DW443.Yes I think I'll wait for my unit to come to see wether the backing plate can be removed.The original backing plate is 6" and it is velcro type.

I own myself a DW849 the rotary machine and I'm using MG backing plate for 8" pads and did a measurement on the plate and it is 6".So I can assume that the DW443 backing plate can be used with 8" or 6.5" pads.

You can always try PMing or emailing Intel486, who was a big advocate of the DeWalt. I've seen him around from time to time, but not recently.

Yes I did PMed him last night but still no reply yet.Maybe he is a bit busy.Anyway I've checked on DW service website and looked at the diagram seems the back pad can't be changed to other type or brand.Anyway as long as I can use either 6.5" or 8" it will be ok for me.

Thanks again.

I received my DW443 today and I found that it can't be used with MG 5" backing plate to use with their 6.5" pads but the original back plate i.e 6" can be used with my MG 8" pads.I asked the dealer how to change to a 5" back plate and he told me that he can do a modification on it as he done it before.So there will be no problems for me to use MG's 6.5" pads.The speed is from 4000 - 6800 opm with 5 dials setting and 700opm increament.

1=4000
2=4700
3=5400
4=6100
5=6800

PC got 6 dial settings with 700opm also
1=2500
2=3200
3=3900
4=4600
5=5300
6=6000

This orbital buffer is not that heavy only 2.7kg or 6lbs.It comes with a side handle and a dust bag (I gues I'll not going to use it).

Here are some pics of it

Hi Jack,

The price quoted for me was the old price for old stock.Since I got a new stock the price has increased to RM300 or USD78.90 but still it is a good price.I got 6" yellow polishing pad foc from them but it's quite thick, thicker than MG pads or CMA pads.

Here is the contact number and address.

tot31, how come the MG 6.5" won't fit on the 6" backing plate?

zeytee,

What I mean was MG 5" backing plate won't fit into DW443 because the DW443 is using 4 tork screws to fit their own backing plate that got 4 holes as MG's backing plates only got one hole that is only for PCs.If you download the manual from my site you'll understand what I mean.

DW443 6" backing plate can be used with MG's 6.5" pads but you must use it carefully as the pad and the plate difference only 1/2".The safest is to use a 5" backing plate.I asked Chuan that he can custom made a hook n loop 5" backing plate for DW443.

Glad you got your machine. Nice pictures of the DW443 too.

Good luck with the custom plate, and happy polishing!
