Paint chips repaired, but you can see the missing gloss

I performed some chip repairs. I followed the procedure outlined in the learning section. I use SMR, fine rubbing compound, waxed, etc.

I did not use a clear coat. I now notice that you can see the spots where I touched-up the paint. The paint color seems to match but the gloss is different. It is hard to explain but the touch-up paint does not reflect the same way as the regular factory paint. You can clearly see the spots but only because they reflect light differently.

Would using a clear-coat pen make a difference? Is there something else I should be doing?

I am wondering the same thing as I bought the paint pen and clear coat pen from paint scratches.com. I was told to use the touch up paint to cover but not fill the scratch. Then use the clear cloat pen to over fill the scratch and then sand. Apparently this should give you the gloss. Unfortunately the article does not talk about cleat coat.

I am wondering if anyone can comment on this as well.

So no one has left out the clear-coat on paint-chip repairs, noticed a loss of reflective gloss, put on the clear-coat after-the-fact, and then noticed a difference?

The paint was custom-mixed by a body shop using the car as a match. Is it possible the factory paint is different?
